Restoring paint?

I left two unopened big tins (2.5lt) of water based paint in the garage in September thinking of using it in spring, opening the paint now and it is like cottage cheese and the water completly seperated from the emulsion.

This is probably due to the freezing conditions this winter.

Is there any way to restore the paint or should I just take it to the tip?

(One tin is Vinyl Silk and the other one is a Focus branded kitchen paint).

It's probably not much use - presumably these are emulsion paints? Does the tin state whether the paint should be stirrred before use?

Yes they are emulsion. Tried stirring but still a grainy cottage texture.
What's strange is that we bought three tins of the Kitchen paint but only one had this problem, so we still have 2/3 of out paint in perfectly smooth condition?!

It froze. It is now useless I'm afraid. Dump it is the only sensible advice I can give.

Somewhere on the side of the tin it will state 'Protect from Frost'. unfortunately, with the weather we have had, your paint has 'frosted' ie has been affected by extreme cold. As Keystone has said, its now useless and needs to be chucked. Even in good weather, emulsion has a limited life, so its often false economy to keep old emulsion.
