How long does a planning appeal take?
I wonder if you can all help. I have been given indications that our planning application could potentially be refused. We wish to appeal this if that is so, as our neighbour has the same extension. Does anyone know how long appeals take? Many thanks

Karndean flooring
I have aquired some flooring from work, i wasn't sure what it was until i went into the flooring shop yesterday to enquire on just fitting it. The lady after i described it got a piece which is the stuff and said it needs a specialist fitter which she wasn't sure if hers would do, she is going to ring me with a number of a…

how do you prove a wall is not yours
Hi, first timer here, There was a bus shelter wall built on top of the low boundary wall of my property sometime in the 50's, before I bought the property. The shelter has been removed and replaced with a free standing one but the wall was left standing. The council have now taken it down saying it was leaning dangerously…

Roof leaking - think it may be neighbours but they deny it
We had our (very leaky) roof replaced last year and since then everything has been fine. Before the roof was replaced we used to be able to hear a drip in our spare room, which seemed to stop after the new roof was put on - until last night. The wall in that room which is shared with one of our neighbours has a very wet…

Lights flickering
I have replaced the incandescant bulbs in my hallway and landing lights with energy efficient bulbs. Since doing so, these lights flicker on a bit whilst turned off. (They illuminate normally when switched on). What could this mean? Is there a fault with the switch? Could the switch have been put in the neutral wire…

Is this crack subsidence?
I bought a house last year. The surveyor did report a large crack on the wall (lean over) but the wall belongs to the neighbour's extension, a large conservatory. Did not take much notice, I was talking to her and she has cracks on her conservatory wall as well but on different side. She had it repair and last month and…

New Kitchen using Sideboards?
I live in an 200 year cottage and need a new kitchen. We really fancy getting a solid oak free-standing kitchen as we feel it is in keeping with the character. However after doing our research it is clear we are looking about £700-£1,800+ per free-standing unit (excluding the granite). So I had an idea of using normal…

B&Q Laminte Flooring
We're trying to find laminate floring that matches our kitchen worktop and are having trouble finding a suitable one. The colour of the worktop is afzelia. B&Q have one very similar, but it is not part of their AquaLoc range. So my question is would their normal range (BevelLoc) be suitable in a kitchen? Thanks.

Moving fridgefreezer
Hi, moving house at the end of the month, and will be getting a luton with a tail lift. I'm thinking about how I can get the fridgefreezer (and washing machine) down the steps at front of property - took two men to bring it up them but it was fully packaged at the time and I don't want to damage it by banging it around.…

Problem with builder - please advise
Hi there, I need some advice from someone in the know please. We have brought a builder/decorater in to rectify some issues with existing rendering. Although they started well, things appear to be going downhill and we are really unhappy with the way the work is progressing. The builder does appear open to a conversation…

bath chipped - legal question
Hi, I posted yesterday about a botched bathroom fitting. One aspect of this is a chipped bath. It was damaged during installation, with a 1cm chip in surface. We are talking to the Trading Standards now, The fitter is refusing to replace the bath & claims all he is obliged to do is repair. Is this correct? thanks for the…

gas fire spillage.
I live in a housing association home and back in November had a gas fire fitted to replace the very old one I had. The contractors are a big firm and in my opinion didn't do a very good job. The gas fire was spilling according to the fitter and he had to get on to the maker of the fire to check what to do. He came back the…

Sewing Machine
I am looking to buy a new sewing machine. A couple of months ago I purchased a used Janome model that was pretty old; for £35. I managed to make one thing with it before it started giving me grief. The machine started bunching up on the bottom of the fabric, I've tried looking on the net and fixing it myself with no avail.…

Paint
I wondered if anyone had any experience of using Wilkinsons paint? I have always tended to use Dulux, as I find their quality to be far superior to even Crown. I'm just going for cream this time, and there is a huge difference in price. Is it worth paying extra for Dulux or will Wilkinsons do as well?

My microwave (Sharp) is about 3 years old and when I cleaned it today alot of the paint on the interior came off and it is all rusty underneath. The bottom of the door panel on the inside is also really rusty. Is it still safe to use or am I better getting a new one with a stainless steel interior? If I am better getting a…

Cavity wall insulation
Hello I was put off having this done years ago by a workman who said having it can make your property damp. Since then I have been told that they use different material that doesn't do that now .... I'm still not convinced though after watching ,not so long ago, on Watchdog I think it was an item where a property had had…
