B&Q Laminte Flooring

We're trying to find laminate floring that matches our kitchen worktop and are having trouble finding a suitable one. The colour of the worktop is afzelia. B&Q have one very similar, but it is not part of their AquaLoc range. So my question is would their normal range (BevelLoc) be suitable in a kitchen?
Thanks.

I run a Maintenance Coimpany and undertake a lot of laminate installations.

There is much debatge on here regarding whether laminate flooring is suitable for kitchens and bathrooms. I personally have no issues with it being laid in these areas provided you are sensible about it eg: clean up water splashes as they occur etc.

The aqualoc range at B & Q is 'water tolerant', not water proof. No laminate flooring is water proof. Therefore if you have a major flood from a burst pipe or a washing machine etc, the aqua loc will rupture just the same as ordinary laminate flooring. If this is what you are worried about, its irrelevant what laminate flooring you put down.

The ordinary laminate will be fine in the kitchen providing you are reealistic. I've had ordinary laminate in my bathroom for nearly 10 years and it doesn't show any signs of water penetration. However, I use a large bath mat and wipe any water up as soon as possible.

So in summary, I would suggest the Beveloc should be ok, providing you manage it in the long term.

I'll probably get shot down in flames now, by the other side of the arguement!

I've still got laminate in my kitchen despite 2 instances of water ingress requiring replacement - just prefer it. Had it glued together in the main kitchen area this time, won't help if the dishwasher leaks, but odd water splashes won't penetrate

I've got a 'normal' laminate in my bathroom - I figured that it was a small area and worth the risk because it looked nice. Never had any trouble with it. No company will ever tell you their normal laminate is fine in bathrooms and kitchens because they don't want you complaining and demanding refunds if it isn't - just covering their backs.

Worth considering as well, that i had a leak in my kitchen which had vinyl flooring on top of ancient vinyl tiles stuck to concrete. The vinyl floor had to come up to allow the water that had seeped between the two layers of vinyl to dry out - and it was impossible to get it up without tearing it. Consequently, even my waterproof floor was destroyed and needed replacing in the face of a big leak.

Thanks for the advice. Just as a side note. What is the best underlay to go for? The kitchen is half wood, half new concrete. I've previously had laminate that was quite springy underfoot and I'd like to avoid that and have quite a firm base.

I have the regular green fibreboard, it's not springy (other than a patch in the hallway where the underfloor was levelled by myself - we just avoid standing on that bit.)
  • has anyone used this bevel loc flooring? i'm thinking about buying it for my bedroom... i want to know if its durable and long-lasting though?

Would it be worth glueing the joints around the sink area? Would this actually repel water?
    Thanks again.

It should be fine in a bedroom, as they are classed as low traffic I think. The beveled edge gives the boards a bit more character too.
