Fitted sheet for mattress slightly bigger than normal
Our double mattress is very slightly bigger than normal. Most double fitted sheets seem to be 135cm x 190cm then the side piece varies from about 20-30cm. Our mattress is 141cm x 194cm x 23cm depth so a normal double fitted sheet with the above measurements would be stretching the sheet a bit too far. Anyone know the…

Paying the Electrician
Hia, hope you can help... The electrician finished my rewiring on Friday... the original estimate was £2,500 but he added an extra £500 on to cover plasterwork. We had a bit of an argument because the plasterwork was truly appauling (he asked if I was happy to fill the remaining holes myself). In the end, he stayed late on…

The on/off button in my dishwasher doesn't work?
Has anyone encountered this problem with the on/off button in the dishwasher? I push the button, but when I release it, the button also lets loose. In the end, I had to use the cello tape to wrap around the button in order to keep up the pressure. Only then did the dishwasher begin to operate. But obviously I have to find…

How to keep the sloped ceiling warm?
I'm still trying to get to the bottom of our mold problem but I think I'm getting there. Basically our house is warm enough and humidity is at about the right levels but where there are cold patches in the house is where condensation is forming. The cold patches are around the windows (wooden double glazed) and back patio…

I have an inset gas fire, approx 9 years old, hardley ever been used since we have lived here, which i would like removed. The house is around 10 years old. Switching gas and electricity (from a meter)
Hi everyone I currently live in a rented property with two other people (friends, not family). We currently have a gas meter and an electricity meter. The cost is absolutely ridiculous. For example, in the last month alone I have personally spent £80 on both combined (£40 each). And that's after we split it 3 ways - so a…

Moving a washing mashine and fridge freezer
Hi, I'm moving my washing machine and fridge freezer from my old house to the new house, which is about 15 minutes drive away. Will they be OK if I get a man in a van to transport them? I'm worried that, say, the drum in the washing machine may give way, or the mechanisms inthe fridge freezer may give way during…

Too many rads for my boiler ?
I have an old Glowworm Space Saver 38 boiler (i've read this is 40,000 btu ??). My house has 4 (perhaps 5) more radiators in it than it had originally (now 11 rads). I am struggling like mad to get 2-3 of the rads to temp. I'm a complete (complete !) novice. I've used the lockshields on the rads that are getting hot - it…

Ensuite door advice
We're currently redecorating our ensuite and would like to put it a proper door (at the moment there's a curtain separating it from the bedroom). The problem is that the door space isn't a standard door size, so an ordinary interior door won't do the trick, which is no doubt why the previous owners didn't install one. I…
