closed couple toilet

Does anyone know what a closed couple toilet is?

our plumber looked in our downstairs loo, and said yes, just enough room for a closed couple toilet. Dont know what that means though?!

I thought a toilet was a toilet. Does it mean it takes up less space?

The WC cistern sits on top of the pan.

The water cisten is attached to the pan

If its not close coupled , the two are joined by a pipe.
Vast majority of WC are now close coupled , or more modern is the back to the wall

And their all dual flush as well, any close coupled used to be expensive. ie back in 1980 you couldnt get one for less than about £100, their still that now (or less)
  • its just an asthetic thing then? i just want a toilet that flushes well and lasts.

Hope he checked his pan connector to soil pipe distances then - particularly if its a vertical pipe! Hers some pics to save you searching:

    Closecoupled toilet:

The cistern is physically conected to the pan.

    Lowlevel Toilet

The cistern is separately mounted and connected to the pan by a flush pipe.

A back-to-wall toilet is essentially similar to the low level one except the cistern and flush pipe are hidden

Your plumber not trying to bamboozle you with buzzwords is he? If you do not understand anything he says then DO NOT be afraid to ask. Applies to ALL tradesmen BTW.

    Cheers

    Not asking much :rotfl:
These low flushing ones that are forced upon us , have no where near as much
'force' as the old style , hence the need to check  and re-flush!!!

That nothing to do with CC, its just that EU rules say that the maximum flush is now 6litres, (3 on 1/2" flush) compared with 12 litres before, use you brush!

    I don't want to use a brush :D
I'm on a water meter , can afford to pay the bill , and want a 'bog' that works .

Its the simple things in life that makes me happy.

    sod the EU .
