Well you've got no choice if you buy a loo it doesn't matter if close couple or not its got to use less water. It purely a cosmic choice and I would allway go with a close coupled much nicer looking and as such will make it more attractive if you ever decide to sell.

its just an asthetic thing then? i just want a toilet that flushes well and lasts.

IMHO if it's a small space then opt for a close coupled toilet as they tend to stick out less far into the room.

We have a close-coupled toilet in our main bathroom and I really wish I had asked for the same when we had a loft conversion last year. I left buying the plain white toilet and sink to the builder as our family was 'leaving him to it' while we went on holiday.

He did a lovely job overall, but he didn't go for a close-coupled loo - and the normal length loo is too long for the tiny wc area really. We'll change it when we can afford to!

I still had to use the brush, even with the old loo.. You must have a funny diet.

Three of our toilets are close coupled back to wall models. We have another one in the granny annex that is low level but but not close coupled. There is nothing to choose between them for operational efficiency. You do get occasional problems flushing, but nothing that a second flush will not clear
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Thank you everyone for your replies, i really appreciate it.

Throughout my life, I have always had a lever to flush the toilet, not a push button. They drive me crazy! you feel like you are getting a better flush when you push down a lever.

But the bathrooms are very small. I have spotted some in Wickes, with a low level pan, and top bit. They look like they will flush better or is it in my imagination.
