Lagging external pipes
Hi all, Just wondering if any of you could offer a solution? I've still not moved into my new house - still doing it up, decorating etc. The boiler has been serviced and I've had a new programmable room thermostat installed, so the interior of the house is lovely and warm when we're there and 'ticking over' when not. Went…

Could snow on roof be insulating house?
I might be sounding really stupid here but.. It's minus whatever outside and this normally very draughty, cold house is dothering but the past few days it's much warmer and seems to be holding it's heat. The only thing I can think of is the snow up on the roof. Could that really be insulating the house?

Bathroom Door Lock Question
I have a new door for a new downstairs loo. Now I want to fit a handle into a bathroom door lock for it (with a thumb turn under it). The trouble is, the handle is a door-knob style (oval in fact), and the only door locks I can find all seem to place the handle very near the edge of the door. If I put it there, I'll rip my…

Paint: Cutting In on Window Glass
I have some really ugly window putty work on the outside of a window which I cannot reach to alter ... when viewed from within the room (i.e. looking out of the window) it looks bad. So, when I painted the inside of the window this week I painted into the glass with the paint about 1cm and it covered everything up nicely.…

Samsung Fridge Freezer
I am really struggling to choose a new fridge freezer...so forgive me if you have seen previous posts on this topic. I have seen a really nice, big Samsung f/f but am concerned about the brand. Convector or oil-filled radiator or what?
I need some buying advice. In a nutshell, why should I buy an oil-filled radiator rather than a much cheaper convector heater? We have a loft conversion that was done many years ago. Although there is a central heating radiator in the room, in cold weather it is still chilly, in the present cold snap, doubly so. Ideally…

Internal wall insulation
Good evening all We're sitting here freezing half to death, moaning about the heating being on and costing us a fortune but not keeping us warm enough. Conservatory to extension
Hi We have an edwardian conservatory and I am pee'd off with it, winter it is freezin (no heater except plug in oil one) and summer its baking hot. I don't know if putting heating in it will help, or if it will just escape through the window/roof. The noise of the roof when it rains also does my head in! My question is, if…

Leaking washing machine even when not running?
My 2 and a half year old Zanussi "Essentials" 1200 rpm washing machine has started to leak water. It appears to be 'clean' water and the leak persists even when it's not running (so I assume it's a connection prior to the actual place where the water enters the machine for the washing cycle (if you see what I mean). Does…
