door prices normally start at around £400 fitted,

Short of getting friendly with a fitter and buying one of him second hand, which he has maybe taken out of a house or indeed you might try freecycle.

In the meantime, draughtproof you door with foam strips. Trawl the charity shops and look for a good heavy curtain, velvet is best, but you need one about 80 inches long to reach floor level.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

agree with mcneff, upvc doors are advertised in my local paper for £400 fitted, white is cheaper. i had wood doors and the house never warmed. now ive got upvc doors theyre excellent, really warm now.
i paid £750 for a back door and window fitted, in brown with georgian bar.

Deal with the drafts! The door may help, but if there are other drafts, it would be a waste of effort.

If the house is that cold, putting a couple of new doors is not going to make much difference. You need to be checking everything, quality of heating, roof and wall insulation and definitely draught proofing.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Oh that's a shame - we're hours and hours away from you- oh well. All the best with it anyway.

Do you have wooden floors? The current trend for stripped flooring and laminate may look good, but is terrible for drafts. Can't beat a good old fashioned bit of properly fitted carpet and underlay.
