Hotpoint washing machine parts cover
We've just got a new Hotpoint machine and the accompanying brochure boasts 'free 5 year parts guarantee' but the form is really for a repair plan costing £199 for five years 'including' the free 12 months manufacturer's guarantee (in other words £199 for four years). It doesn't seem to offer the parts guarantee on its own.…

Cost of lawnmower service
I've been given a Honda rotary mower. It's about 8 years old I would say but it starts fine. I've given it a clean off and a once over but it won't engage the blade and I can't get the bolts off to get at this section cause they're rusted on! I'm thinking I'm going to have to put it in for a service. What sort of cost do…

Leaking Roof!
We're in the process of having a complete re-roof on our 1930s house. The old tiles are off, the felt is on and we're about to have the new tiles put on. The problem is in the last day we've found four different wet patches on the upstairs walls and the alarm bells have started ringing. The explanations we've had have…

Brick wall problem
We bought our house in 1992. There is a passageway that divides our house from next door which gives us right of use to access our back garden but the passage itself belongs to the house next door. Before we bought our house, the previous owner of the house next door (hope that makes sense!!) built a brick wall about 8…

Wickes kitchens
Wickes have withdrawn their takeaway kitchen price-guides as the prices didn't tally with display or website, also some codes were wrong. And does anyone know if their intergrated cooker-hood fascia is illegal as I think it's way to long-600mmX549mm-.They say to cut it down or buy the cookerhood unit & just use the door!

Paint effects
Hi, I am hoping to paint a brass coloured light fitting I have to match my curtain poles. The light fitting is quite new and was not cheap so I wanted to have a go at painting before I splash out on a new one. My curtain poles are 'burnished brass' a bit like the one of the link. When you look closely it looks like brass…

Planning permission.
My mum and dad have just had a large shed built in the back garden to keep my dad's and my brothers plumbing supplies in. The shed is 14ft x 8 ft. Wallpaper strippers! to hire or to buy?
I need to strip a lot of very old woodchip from four rooms in my new house. I have looked into hiring/ buying a wallpaper stripper and it seems that it is virtually the same price to do either. Now I am loathe to pay money to borrow something when I could just pay to own it instead, but I am thinking surely the hire…
