ovens - gas cheaper than electric to run?
With the current 2007 price of gas and electricity, and assuming 'normal' usage - would a gas double oven (built-in) be cheaper to run than an electric double oven? We're in a new house and have to replace the double gas oven. Gas ovens aren't as widely available as electric, and in someways I'd prefer electric, but we…

New Dyson DC19 - Worth the money?
The time has come to replace my Dad's Dyson DC 05 which has given 8 years of loyal service. I've narrowed the potential replacement down to the the two Dyson cylinders; DC08 (non telescope wrap) and DC19. My Dad doesn't want the fiddly telescope thing. DC19 has just come out and is the "latest thing" but only seems a…

Stairlift 5 year contract cancelled
Hi I wonder if anyone could help me please? My elderly aunt and uncle had a stairlift fitted from Simply Stairlifts in 2003 with a one year guarantee. The company contacted them in 2004 offering a 5 Years Silver Service for £999. This was a significant reduction on the normal rate (£333 each year) and meant that they would…

Willow/Brushwood screening etc - any good?
Hi I have no privacy in my back garden and can't afford proper fencing so was thinking about buying 2m high screening to just nail onto the existing fence. Is it worth it? Will it be destroyed through the winter? If the kids kick a ball round the garden will it easily break?

Dishwasher seal gone after less than two years?
Hi all, In June 2005 I bought a mini dishwasher. This morning I discovered it is leaking very badly from the bottom corner near the door; on closer inspection the seal is gunky and appears to be coming away; I think it will need replacing. Can anyone suggest what to do? From a consumer point of view I do feel that I have a…

Pressure washer keeps cutting to low pressure
I bought a pressure washer from Woolworths (RAC one going for half price). The water seems to come out at full pressure for a few seconds only before coming out very slowly - at a very reduced, tap-like, pressure. Anyone experienced this? Is it due to low tap pressure?

Tackling Spiders and other Creepy Crawlies
I briefly mentioned this in a previous post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=405956 Although I'm appreciative of the feedback I was given I didn't really get enough advice concerning the insect dillema. As summer is pretty much here, as is obvious, the spiders etc.. are back out to play. I have no…

Who should pay for a shared fence?
Live in a terrace house and the fence on one side is just about falling apart and needs replacing making the back garden look really shabby. Both houses are owned/mortgaged. Should the cost of replacing be met by us and neighbour 50/50? What about if they refuse to pay for anything towards the cost?

Replacing a hot water timeswitch
My current timeswitch had these horrible "tappets" and I've managed to lose all but one of the cold water pegs. In true money saving fashion, I've acquired a new timeswitch which looked awfully similar to the one I currently have for a tenner. I thought this would be an easy job to rewire the new one in, but I'm a bit…
