How do I fix a hole in the wall?

My housemate hit a hole in the wall - can you spell anger management!

Anyway the wall is pretty thin and the hole is big - How can I fix it? Inside the wall there is some stuffing fibre of some sort and obviously the broken bit is still inside there..

Anyone have any ideas to make it look perfect again ? It's a rented flat and I dont want to loose my deposit over this!

Cheers

first of all you'll need to clean up the edges of the hole - usually cutting a bigger square is easier , then cut a couple of bits of timber approx 400mm bigger than your now square hole .
if the hole is near a stud then run the timbers vertiically , if not run them horizontally - screw them through the existing plasterboard.
cut a square of plasterboard a couple of mm smaller than the hole and screw to the new timbers.

    then plaster over , paint
