Wooden front door - problems!
I recently had a lot of work done on my house by some builders. Most of the work they did was great, however I have had problems with the front door they installed. I'm not sure if it is the way they installed it, or a problem with wooden front doors in general. The problem is that whenever it rains, water leaks inside…

MFI Bathroom Suite
We ordered a bathroom suite from MFI and every item was slightly damaged. Another bathroom suite was delivered, this time okay, but the first delivery was not collected. Eventually I phoned and asked them to collect - I need the space in the garage! Collection was arranged for 13th December but on the 10th had a call to…

Curtain pole/rail for ceiling
I have a reccessed bay window and need a curtain for it. The curtain would be too far away from the window if we put it at the front of the recess so really it needs to be attached to the top of it (ceiling of recess), I have looked in B&Q and Homebase but can't see anything that would allow me to fit a pole/rail to the…

How to fit slats to bed correctly?
Okay, this is probably a really stupid question, but which way up should I fit the slats on a bed? We have today taken delivery of new bunk beds for our girls, but the instructions are minimal to say the least!!! The slats are held together by some kind of thick, strong, black stringy-looking material (very descriptive…

Loft storage
We boarded out our loft for storage and yesterday I noticed an item had mold on it. We have loads of stuff up there and no room in the house for it. Anything that is in a cardboard box feels damp. The house is 4 years old. The loft is dafty and the floor is well insulated. Now I'm panicking! What do I do?

Noisy central heating / hot water system
I wonder if anyone can help ... Whenever we have the central heating on and use either the shower / bath or a hot water tap, we get a loud droning noise anything up to 2 hours afterwards. The noise lasts a few minutes. If we turn a radiator up higher or turn a hot tap on full blast the noise stops, but starts again when we…

Awful noise coming from my loft
I am getting this awful noise coming from my water tank, it sound like somebody is putting a hammer drill through the wall, it lasted only a few seconds. The same thing happened two years ago about the same time of the year. I am just wondering what it could be. My husband thinks we might to get a plumber. Will be grateful…

Anglian Windows - any good?
Hello, Today I had a quote for replacement UPVC windows from Anglian. This is the third quote I've had and I have Everest coming on Friday. Anglian is the cheapest so far by over £1,000 which is a huge amount. The others I've had have been smaller independent local firms but ones who are on local vetted tradesman forums.…

Broken washing machine - is this fixable?
Evenin all. My washing machine stopped spinning the other day, and a quick exploration with a torch and a socket set has revealed that the plastic casing which houses the engine and the "drive shaft" for want of a better word, has sheared away completely from the part of the casing which houses the drum. This has caused…
