Dyson problem

Options
I have a dyson DC04 abs+ and it seems to have a loose power connection which has been getting worse to the point of now being permament!
I cannot find a way of opening the switch to see the cable connections or switch unit. Does anyone have any knowledge on how to dismantrle this part, or know of a website that has a guide? My christmas tree needles are already accumulating, I need help, and fast!!! ;)

Many thanks
Rich

Its a common problem with Dyson, I've had a DC03 for years and had about 4 new leads on it. We now have a DC07 and (touch wood) that seems better so far.

    This should help

BTW as far as I remember they came with a long guarantee so we rang dyson and they would turn up and fit a new cable. I don't think I ever paid for one to be replaced.
  • Excellent. :T
Thanks very much Cypher, now I just need to make myself the little screwdriver to get the glamour cap off...

    Have a great Xmas.

The Dyson we have - upright version (01 i think), has had a few new leads - they are pretty expensive from Dyson for what they are, the screws holding it together are Torx style fixings (similar to allen but the internal bit is star shaped), just get a torx multi tool and you should get it apart ok.

The lead on ours fails in the same place every time, just where it goes in to the body.

I have had to shorten the flex on the daughters Dyson two or three times with the same problem,

She thinks that because it is flexible it will stretch.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • I have now fixed ours. The fiddle is getting the button off ( I broke the tag!) but it still works. Live wire had broken so just re-spade the wire to the switch and hey presto.

Thanks all for your replies. Carpet now clear of needles :D

Amazing. Mine is intermittent too. I have to hold the cable upright with my hand when using it. Another job for the new year.

Can you get a new roller brush for the head? Mine is worn (Dc01) to the point where it just flicks the grit across the room?
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
  • Wish I'd read this thread yesterday. Have the same problem so ordered a DC15 at 4pm yesterday from Tesco direct, arrived at 8am this morning.
  • fix yours & send the new one back

When ours failed the first time the heat it generated melted the outer insulation and the bare copper wires showed through.

Please err on the side of caution, stop using it and get it fixed ASAP

They roller brushes and most other spares are available from Dyson on line, there are other alternatives as well if you just Google Dyson Spares
