Cannot lock patio door

Options
Seems to be having all sort of problems with Xmas approaching. The patio door is very hard to open and then it will not lock. Hubby went outside and give it a hard push and managed to lock it. Now, it seems we are looked in as we cannot use the key to open, it will not budge. Am a bit concerned in case of fire and we are locked in with only the front door as escape. Hubby says we need to replace the patio door, but I told him it will costs load, it was installed by everest. Please is there an easier way to this solution? Who I need to contact to deal with this problem, is it a locksmith? Thanks

If it's a problem with the handle/lock I can recommend https://www.handlestore.com for double glazing supplies. Helpful service & speedy

A locksmith should be able to deal with it. What type of door is it, wood or UPVC? A local handyman might be able to fix it, or look in local paper for double glazing repair/replacement specialists.
  • hi, is the door an aluminium door? chances are that if it is the sliding door has come of its rollers at the bottom. this is a dead easy repair all you have to do is prise the door up a bit with a spade or a crowbar and set it back on the track. then the door will slide better and the locks line up etc......maybe!

worth a go before calling for professional help.
  • In our previous house we used to get this problem with the patio door. First to get it open, try 'closing it further' at the same time as you turn the key to open it! You should then see a small silver slot where the internal bolt drops into on the bottom track of the door frame. Inside this slot, there should be a screw which if you loosen, will allow you to move the slot. Move the slot as far 'open' as it will allow then tighten the screw. Should be job done!

How long ago was it installed. Everest may have given you or the previous owner a 10 year guarantee.

Call them anyway, maybe they will fix it for free.
