Excessive Electricity Quotes/bills
Good afternoon All, This is my first post, and hopefully my last. I am looking for some advice regarding electricity and SSE. I recently had a disagreement with SSE regarding my statement. They have put me more than £6000 in debit. They have slowly been bumping my bills up, to which I always asked them to revert. I…

Shell: frequency of meter readings (been told I send too frequently)
Hi all, Shell was my appointed operator of last resort when Pure Planet went bust last year. I've only ever been on the price-capped tariffs, currently on flexible 7 direct debit. The transfer went so so, but I've now had 4 bills from them. My past 2 bills have had credit applied by outlining "cancelled bills", effectively…

£150 council tax rebate failed payment verification
I was starting to wonder about my £150 council tax rebate, then I received a letter saying I have "failed payment verification" and I have to submit a claim online. I've done this for the sake of getting through the process, but as I pay by direct debit you'd think they'd be able to credit my account without me submitting…

Energy advice for a pensioner
HI, I'm confused and looking for advice for my elderly Father. His fixed rate ends tomorrow and the fixed is about 40% more than the variable rate he will move onto. With the news today, is it advisable to take the fixed rate for 12 months? He will at least have the security of knowing the payments each month. Or, take the…

Sainsburys energy
On the Sainsburys website it says "Sainsbury's Energy is a trading name used under license by E.ON Next Energy Limited." - does that effectively mean Sainsburys Energy couldn't go bust unless EON Next also went bust (which I'm hoping is quite unlikely) ? With the cap going up so much again in the autumn I was wondering…

Bulb Energy - Smart Meters - no WAN connection
I've been with Bulb Energy for a while now and have smart meters installed. All has been fine until I noticed that estimates had been used for my last two bills. My IHD displays all the meter and usage information correctly, and the meters themselves are displaying usage locally OK. However the communication hub on top of…

Energy cap to Increase to £2800 in October
I've just read this from a Facebook post https://www.bbc.com/news/business-61562657 that the price cap will be £2800 in October. Although I am skeptical about the increase personally thinking around the £2600 mark this could send people into not putting their heating on, relying more on cold meals and any other option to…

At the energy prices in the latest Standard Variable Tariff, does anyone know definitively whether an electric induction hob or a gas hob is cheaper to use?

Standing charges
We spend around half the year out of UK so daily standing charges are a cost to us for nothing during the times away. We always used to look for no or low daily charges but since the governments “simplification” rules for energy companies billing procedures those no or low costs seem to have disappeared. Are there any…

Grants for Efficient Storage Heaters

It is fixed until July 2024. they have said no and if I want to stay with them I have to apply when I get to my new house. This means that I will be paying a lot more…

Is this gas tariff a good deal?
My current gas tariff finishes in October so now I'm trying to see if I should switch to a fixed deal or do nothing and let me roll on to the default tariff which will be at the price cap rates. Supplier has offered me this fix for a year which would start in October: Unit charge 9.87p/kWh Standing charge 27.22p/day My…

Off mains gas, storage heaters dead - is now the time for air source?
Our 4-bed 1920s, off mains-gas, semi-detached house is currently heated solely by ancient night storage heaters which have now very much reached the end of their life. These are now only pumping out minimal and sporadic heat (as well as obviously costing a small fortune regardless) so we are going to have to bite the…

Defunct Electricity Meter
Does anyone know who is responsible for replacing a defective electricity meter? Mine has not registered any usage for over a year, but cannot be replaced with a smart meter because there isn't enough room on the board. The trouble is the supplier handed the problem to the technical team, who say they only fit smart meters…
