Energy advice for a pensioner

HI, I'm confused and looking for advice for my elderly Father. His fixed rate ends tomorrow and the fixed is about 40% more than the variable rate he will move onto. With the news today, is it advisable to take the fixed rate for 12 months? He will at least have the security of knowing the payments each month. Or, take the uncertainty and hope the price increase in October isn't as bad as feared? What do you think? Many thanks in advance.

Don't forget he will be paying 40% more for the next 5 months whatever happens after if he takes the fixed deal.

Thanks Benny, so you would reckon moving onto the variable would be a better bet at this stage?

Look at fixed rate tariffs from other suppliers not just your father's current one. There is considerable variation.
