Sainsburys energy
On the Sainsburys website it says "Sainsbury's Energy is a trading name used under license by E.ON Next Energy Limited." - does that effectively mean Sainsburys Energy couldn't go bust unless EON Next also went bust (which I'm hoping is quite unlikely) ? With the cap going up so much again in the autumn I was wondering just how safe those of us that grabbed Sainsburys fixes last autumn are - I'm sure they would get rid of us if they could! It was a big enough jump back in September but the difference between that fix and the likely rates this autumn are eye watering, it must be hell to be on the variable rate

It's not too bad during summer time, heating is off, minimal hot water and the cut back on Electricity is a good exercise preparing us for this Autumn Winter.daveaspy said:On the Sainsburys website it says "Sainsbury's Energy is a trading name used under license by E.ON Next Energy Limited." - does that effectively mean Sainsburys Energy couldn't go bust unless EON Next also went bust (which I'm hoping is quite unlikely) ? If you haven't already started (even with a current good fixed rate) now is the time to start looking at energy saving in preparation of the potential £2800 price cap rate in October.
As you already know Sainsbury's are back by Eon next so they will be safe.1 -
I'm lucky enough to be with Sainsburys till October 2023 but i think this is excellent advice re energy saving. Already looking at changing Boiler settings, using tumble drier less and switching off everything that we can at night. Obviously changes now will help negate, hopefully by quite a bit, when the financial clout happens to us.Mstty said:

At the moment we have the luxury of a wee bit of leeway to do this due to current deal1 -
I got the same deal with SE felt like we missed a bullet with these recent price hikes, hopefully it’ll be a better landscape by Oct 23johnbhoy70 said:

Gave monthly readings on Friday for gas and electricity. As usual electric came off my balance almost instantaneously but gas is showing as pending review before been finalised. Wasn't for big amount really and not bothered in the slightest but i think it's the first time i've seen that.0

Before any reading is used for billing purposes, it has to be industry-validated. Validation for gas and electricity are carried out by different organisations.johnbhoy70 said:Gave monthly readings on Friday for gas and electricity. in regards to "get rid of you if they could"
If you're paying 20p a unit and the current "wholesale" price is 50p that doesn't mean that sainsburys/EON is losing 30p a unit. At they time you were offered a contract, they also agreed a contract with a generator for 20p a unit over the next X months. Both your fix and the contract with the generator end at the same time and then you need to move to a different price.
EON get a set of customers who are probably less likely to go into debt, and Sainsburys raise their branding by seeming to offer you a good deal on a vital service.1 -
It might be that they are simply awaiting for confirmation of the amount of energy that was in the amount of gas you have used (calorific value). The amount of gas I've used in the last month was zero so my figures didn't show as pending (but they still took a chunk in standing charges of course...)johnbhoy70 said:Gave monthly readings on Friday for gas and electricity. Thanks for the responses guys. From memory, and i've been with them since October, readings usually reflect on the account almost straight away for gas and electricity. Certainly at the very least on the same day. Maybe the gas team are on holiday!!0

Maybe the gas team are on holiday!!It could be the time you submitted the result, but it's usually applied to your account within 24 hours.I have noticed sometimes that the amount pending on my account is sometimes off by a few pence compared to my bill, so I can only assume it's the CV that changes (as they don't show any other details for pending payments). I've also never had a pending payment for electricity, only gas.0
