Moving house
I will be moving house in a few months. I asked my electricity supplier Scottish Power if I could transfer my fixed tariff to my new property 5 miles away. It is fixed until July 2024.
they have said no and if I want to stay with them I have to apply when I get to my new house. This means that I will be paying a lot more on a higher tariff.
does anyone know why this is and can this be changed?

Unless specifically mentioned in the terms and conditions of your fixed deal then no they don't have to move a fixed deal.

Even if your existing company offers to let you have the same deal again, you'll still have to sign up with the incumbent supplier(s) at your new address. Only then can you start switching to any supplier that will accept you as a new customer.0

Fundamentally the answer to 'why?' is that these were the terms of your original contract with Scottish Power.0
