That's interesting. Didn't think anyone did a zero standing charge now. Wonder how they're going to deal with recovering the "loan" that will be forced upon everyone?Mstty said:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. They have not been taking on new direct debit customers for many monthsMstty said:2 -
Utilita only allow switches if you have a pre-payment meter. This pops up when you ask for a quote.
Why can't you switch without a pre-payment meter?
Due to the ongoing efforts to minimise the risk of COVID-19, we've taken the decision to prioritise the install of smart meters for our most vulnerable PAYG customers. This means you may have to wait longer than normal for us to replace your current meters with our smart Pay As You Go meters.
To get a quote and complete your switch, please call us on 0345 206 8777 and we will be happy to help.

Whilst your not directly being critical of the new SCs, it is unlikely we will return to the days of low / zero SCs until the market settles and the loans etc have been paid off. Due to the flex that suppliers use to have, especially the smaller players they were able to offer silly low SC rates.
Even when you are away using no energy, if there was a problem with your meter or supply it would be the network provider you would call to recifiy, all this costs. The only real option would be to go off grid, and become self sufficient. But all these are all likely to be far more than what you pay in SC.1 -
They have if you contact them directly. We did in fact in April for another property.1
