Paying more now to fix electricity costs, good idea or not?
We are on a flexible tariff with Octopus, our electricity consumption is huge, and always has been. We don't have gas, just electricity and oil central heating. I have looked at switching but to get a fixed deal we would have to pay more now, it works out as another £60 a year (so from £1155 to £1217 p.a.). Martin says…

Who gets FIT payments after my demise?
Slightly complicated situation, I'm thinking about this after Mr. M and I completed the LPA forms today. I own the house we live in, mortgage free, with PV panels paying me an income (we have only been married for 8 years, both bereaved after long marriages). My will, drawn up by a solicitor, leaves my house to my two…

Switch or wait?
I recently took to the price comparison sites and was a little surprised to see how much energy costs have gone up - although it makes sense given we're in a pandemic. My current tariff with British Gas ends in 36 days. According to Which?, the current cheapest tariff from a company that offers Warm Home Discount is 'Avro'…

BG Evolve / British Gas Evolve Switch Problems
Going by the number of complaints on Social Media and Trustpilot RE this company I am surprised I can't find a thread on here, so apologies if there is one - perhaps someone can direct me to it? I am presently switching from Octopus to BG Evolve. I received an email from BGE 9th May saying my switch was completed, however,…

Warm Home Discount
For anyone wanting to change to Igloo as their new supplier, be warned, they pay the Warm Home Discount but only to those in the Core group, NOT the Broader group. If you're taking the payment into account when comparing fuel prices, that can make a difference to whether you swap to Igloo or not.

Green energy - 33% increase in a year??
We've been with Pure Planet for a year, and have been alerted of the end of our deal in July, so we are looking to switch. However - every single deal on a green tariff looks to be about 33% more expensive than last year's bills for us. Can this be correct? It seems like a huge increase.

Is it possible to pay no standing charge?
At the moment I have a house in which I only use electricity and the gas is capped off. I was wondering is it possible to have a supplier for gas that has no standing charge? So I would effectively pay nothing in the interim before I have gas installed?

Dad wants to pay energy bills every quarter
Hi all, My dad was with engie energy until they moved their customers to octopuss energy in 2019. He is very old fashioned, hes had a laptop for 3 or 4 years but only uses it a few times a month and refuses to pay by direct debit if he can help it as hes heard ONE scare story of someone who had more money taken out of…

Fixed or Variable rate energy?
I've read in the weekly email about how energy rates are going up a lot in October, and having just moved into a new property I'm wondering if I should sign up for a fixed rate, because I'm assuming the variable will go up a lot in October? I'd have thought the MSE page on this would say this but it doesn't - am I missing…

GNE final bill
Make sure that you check this document carefully! On my bill, my GNE segment was split into two and calculation carried out for each part. My tariff was a FIXED tariff. Have a look at the standing charge if you have more than one calculation for GNE. I have two different standing charges for both gas and electricity. To…

Requirements for account statements by energy companies
I have just been informed by Bulb that energy companies are no longer required to provide yearly statements of accounts. Is this true? I've been with them for 1 year and wanted to check up on my account. I'm on a prepayment meter and although I have some receipts, I haven't got them all. The person I spoke to at Bulb was…

Avro Energy Gas meter problem
I'm currently with Avro on the Simple & mFix 12m which ends 20th July. Until this week everything has been uneventful which is just how I like it.
