Long story short we a livid with SSE, since January 2021 we have had nothing but problems with SSE, trying to tell me our meter reading and we owe them no monies its paid up, we gave a meter reading to the operator who was none English speaking person she misheard the digits we gave her, the operator didn't understand what we said we got a bill for £143.00- we disputed this sent them a reading via mobile phone a picture of our actual meter reading in the end, we thought this would tell SSE what we actually used but SADLY NO, we have had a number of discussions 09/06/21 we spoke with Nathan (a manager) informed him that at 000.78 units we only owe them £43.50 he agreed we paid up using a HSBC gold credit card this amount of monies is shown the statement as this amount, but now SSE are saying they have not received this money but we have the proof and we phoned the bank they agree with us we have paid our monies what we owe to SSE it should be cleared but guess what SADLY NO because we have not got a reference number given to us we haven't paid they say but we have the proof the bank agrees with us the money left our account and paid the bill SSE reply is no because you haven't got the reference number we can see you have paid you still owe this money so today we rang yet again today 25/06/21 we have spoken to 3 people today that are trying to get to the bottom of this we asked them to send someone out they declined (the meter is on the outside of the house) no not sending anyone CAN SOMEONE HELP WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO NEXT because we are so fed up we have moved to Octopus we started with them on them 21/06/21 gave them a meter reading for both houses and we will get billed for what we use not for what they think we have used !!! Please advise I have been with SSE for a long time its gone to the dogs

Welcome to the forum.How exactly did you pay with your credit card?
- In a phone call to SSE?
- Via your online SSE account?
- Via your bank, using the sort code for SSE's bank and their account number?
If it was the last one, did you include your SSE account number as a reference? If you didn't, the money will have reached SSE but they won't know to which account it should be credited, so you could try asking the bank to do a chargeback.You are really doing things the hard way by phoning. In future, set up a direct debit. If you must make a one-off payment, do it via your online SSE account.0 -
... and submit meter readings online as well...

It’s probably sitting in the unallocated payment account.
ask them to ring cash control and they will locate the payment for you.
