Gas and Electricity Usage
Hi everyone, I'm just after some advice regarding our gas and electricity usage. We live in a 4 bedroom detached house and I've been looking at our usage in preparation for changing energy supplier. I was rather concerned to see that our annual electricity usage is over 8000 kw/h and our gas is over 35000 kwh. Having…

Best electric storage heaters? Alternative to Fischer
Hi money savers, I recently bought my first flat - a 1 bed in a small block, built in early 1970s. It's all electric and the current radiators are rubbish and costly. Keen to get storage heaters as I'm on Economy 7. I had Fischer provide a quote but they're too expensive (much expense seems to come with the customer…

Which energy companies insist on installing smart meter on gas and electricity
I have been looking to change my energy supplier but some suppliers (when you look into the terms and conditions) insist you have a smart meter installed within a set period with them. It would be good to identify these companies without having to go into the small print. As someone who works in the gas industry I know…

Scottish Power - New Economy 7 Meter showing wrong dates and times,
Hi am after some help now as to where to go from here, basically Scottish Power since I moved in in September 2018 were reading my old style peak and off peak (2 seperate meters) the wrong way round. After months of calls they accepted they were and it was agreed they'd wipe those out and put a proper single economy 7…

Unable to take over electric account
I moved house in May, filled in the online form to take over the electric account that was with EON, that advised that they would be in contact. Roll on July and I hadn't heard anything, couldn't find anyone to phone so filled in the form again. It's another 2 weeks and I still haven't heard anything, is there anything I…

EDF and OVO smart meter confusion
Hi Everyone I appreciate there has been another thread on this topic, but I really need advice now on what to do next. Last year, after what I deemed to be unfair price hikes from OVO after I had been with them right from the beginning, I decided to look elsewhere for energy supply. I plumped on EDF and started the process…

HELP!?! Debt demanding from previous owner
Hello, I really need some help and advice. Coming up to 3 years ago I moved into my house. I took ownership of the house in October and formally moved in in November, there was roughly a 4 week period where I was not living in the house. Once moved in I set up my new energy supplier. Soon after I began to receive letters…

Greenest energy providers
My fixed deal with e.on ends in September. I wondered if there is a list anywhere of "greener" providers who i should consider switching too - not interested in green gas as that seems worse than normal gas from an environment perspective as i understand it has to be shipped in tankers etc so not good from that point of…

How do I get smart meters?
We moved into a house not long ago and it has old pre pay gas and electricity meters with the cards and keys. I want new meters and to pay our bills by direct debit. Can I contact any supplier and request them to install them? Or does it have to be my current (British gas). If I can go to any provider any tips on who's the…

IHD’s and ‘dumb’ smart meters
I’d welcome any experiences from anyone regarding how ‘dumb’ did their IHD go following change of supplier ?I realise no readings are sent to the new supplier but would I still be able to read the meter via the IHD ?Reason I ask is reading gas meter would involve lying on the floor of outside cupboard in winter. Answer…

just moved in, do I need to keep supplier?
Hi, I've just moved in and the current supplier is BG...I haven't even setup an account yet. Do I need to do this before I can switch?

Should we be switching more than once per year?
I've always looked at my annual usage in kWh and switched to the 'cheapest' supplier based on my total consumption. However, my usage is incredibly much lower in the summer half of the year. This is amplified by having solar PV and generally low usage. I suspect many/most households have a similar seasonal variation.…

New Flat all electric...help me!
Hi guys, next week I'm going to move in this flat, 2 bedroom all electric. I'm a bit worried about this. How much could the electricity bill be? We are two. What about the other bills? There is a chance to find better offers between the different companies? Sorry if it sounds 'stupid' but it's my first time, in my previous…

energy price cap @ Economy 7
I've taken over my very elderly aunts electricity supply. She is on electric only, economy 7, night storage heaters. Modest bungalow, bill is over £1600. The day rate was 20.35p, night rate 11.1p. I believe the energy price cap since 2019 was 17p per kwh, and is about to go down again. I have tried to contact Eon, but…

Absolute nightmare trying to leave British Gas PAYG, how do I make them stop?
I've spent the past six months having British Gas outright lie to me every single time I contact them. I bought my first property in March, which has PAYG meters installed that are registered to British Gas, and I've been trying to get rid of them due to the insanely high tariff and general inconvenience associated with…

Incorrect Meter Estimates from Bulb leading to Huge Bill
I'm looking for a little advice please. I've been a customer of bulb for over 2 years now, however have had issues over the last 10 months with their gas meter reading estimates (they continually under estimate my usage). Despite me giving them actual readings, they continue to estimate a hugely lover usage. In April their…

Price Cap with Economy 10
I have been on an Economy 10 meter for a number of years now as I only have storage radiators for heating and the price cap seemed to benefit me, unless my understanding of how it worked was wrong. Up until April 2020 the Night Tariff was 4.87 kwh but increased to 10.77 kwh (inc VAT) despite my understanding that the price…

Rise in VAT from 5% to 20%?
I had recently received a quote for the installation of an air source heat pump and plumping/radiators, but I received an email from the installers to say that they're quote was based on VAT at 5% and that now it's up to 20%. This would mean having to pay a good £2.5k more, which is hugely disappointing and has thrown into…

Smart Meter Woes
Hi All Background Originally on pay as you go with boost. This was with a key then it became and app and I could top up via the app. I then saw Martins money program about 1 year or more ago. And he spoke to someone on the show and I believe in order to get off keys/pay as you go energy you have to switch to one of the big…

Why do Bristol energy not reduce your monthly payments when in credit.
I am over£100 in credit for my electric at Bristol energy, I pay £53 per month as it is only a small one bed flat. I asked to reduce my payment to £35 as I am only working part time and on the minimum wage. They refused and after being directed to customer support the compromise was to pay £44 per month. However by the end…
