IHD’s and ‘dumb’ smart meters
I’d welcome any experiences from anyone regarding how ‘dumb’ did their IHD go following change of supplier ?
I realise no readings are sent to the new supplier but would I still be able to read the meter via the IHD ?
Reason I ask is reading gas meter would involve lying on the floor of outside cupboard in winter.
Answer will determine if I can change supplier in next few weeks.

My BG IHD went blank and that was it.1

My BG IHD carried on working but new energy supplier refused to accept any readings or photograhic evidence from IHD always insisted on actual meter readongs and
photos (although both readings were the same)1 -
@Matthaus73, can I ask who you *new* supplier was ?Matthaus73 said:My BG IHD carried on working but new energy supplier refused to accept any readings or photograhic evidence from IHD always insisted on actual meter readongs and

I switched from OVO to Octopus, the IHD never stopped working even though Octopus does not appear to be able to read the meter.2

My SSE IHD continues to read and interrogate my leccy meter (SEE supplied Elster AS 300P) and has continued to do so through five different suppliers.- I dont have gas so can't comment on what would happenNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

Likewise, my IHD from OVO for my gas and electric meters continues to work after multiple changes of energy suppliers. However OVO, who installed my smart meters and supplied my IHD, have been the only supplier that have given me any "smart" capabilities - not that I particularly found smart meters altogether useful!TadleyBaggie said:I switched from OVO to Octopus, the IHD never stopped working even though Octopus does not appear to be able to read the meter.

Thanks all..
In fact OVO are my current supplier up until late Sept.
Not a massive saving (perhaps £1 to £1.50 per month) between there cheapest renewal offer and the other ‘high score’ suppliers so I wanted to check what the possible risk was.
Electricity meter would be difficult but doable, gas would be impossible!0 -

Just use elastic bands to secure your mobile onto the end of a broomstick and take a video !

My Secure Liberty 100 SMETS1 electricity meter was installed by OVO back in 2014. Since then I have had four other suppliers and the Pippit 500 IHD had carried on reading the meter OK. Useful for suppling the regular on-line monthly readings to Symbio, as the meter is rather inaccessible.
However, it no longer has the tariff information.1
