Incorrect Meter Estimates from Bulb leading to Huge Bill

I'm looking for a little advice please. I've been a customer of bulb for over 2 years now, however have had issues over the last 10 months with their gas meter reading estimates (they continually under estimate my usage). Despite me giving them actual readings, they continue to estimate a hugely lover usage. In April their system refused to accept my meter reading saying it was too far out of their estimates, and the same happened in June and July - despite my uploading pictures of my meter reading on the app. I've finally spoken to an adviser at Bulb who has changed my account to accept the readings I've given, but it's left me in debit of around £600.
They've offered me £30 compensation that their estimates continued to be inaccurate, and wouldn't upload my readings, but I was looking for some advice as to whether I have any claim on their negligence and incompetence which has lead me to have such a large amount outstanding? I understand the concept of, 'you use it, you pay for it', but I've attempted to provide readings which should have adjusted my monthly payments meaning I could spread the cost - in my opinion the point of paying a direct debit monthly amount across the full year. It also means I'm effectively stuck with Bulb as a supplier because I can't afford to pay the lump sum owing.
Does anyone have any advice on the above please?

In general, for problems that you were completely aware of within the last year there isn't much you can do to avoid paying what is owed, but just to be sure, when was the last bill they provided that used your actual reading, not an estimate?
... I'm guessing it was March this year?

Also what was the balance on your account at that point as it doesn't seem possible that you have run up a £600 debt over the last few months?
Bulb allow you to change your DD amount in your online account, why didn't you simply increase your payment if you knew it wasn't high enough?

As above. You can adjust your own payments online. Why didn't you if you knew you were not paying enough?

Take the money and run !
If you didn't succeed in getting the DD increased, you could just have put the extra money in a piggy bank.
Put a referral link on the relevant board (not here) and cross your fingers that you can escape a  bit earlier.
  • If you've been knowingly underpaying for such a long time, then you should have been putting aside that amount for the day when your supplier finally reconciled the readings.
Bite their hand off for the compensation and pay the bill.
You have known for months what is coming and if you had been persistent could have solved all this in April.
