Cheaper to heat cylinder via gas or electric?
Hi just a quick question, would it be cheaper to heat my hot water cylinder via the immersion? Or gas powered via the boiler? Or would it be cheaper to run with the immersion on 24/7?

Regret xfer to First Utility
Think I may regret moving to First Utility....Following the transfer my former supplier failed to refund the gas credit explaining that FU had failed to pass on the final meter reading. FU had however supplied the electricity reading so that credit refund did arrive. I was anticipating £200+. Over the next 4 weeks I tried…

Can warm homes grant be used for elec debt?
I have prepayment meters for gas & electric from British gas and I am repaying debts through them. As I am on benefits I also qualify for the warm home grant of £130. When I applied I was told that my debt would be taken off this, but I understand that this can't be done as its a government grant to help with energy costs.…

I've just switched my Gas & Electric product and made a saving....which is great but they mentioned a cheaper supplier called Spark Energy. I've had a look on MSE website but can't seem to find out much about them....yet they seem to be considerably cheaper than all the other companies I have looked at? Can anyone help, am…

Never switched before
Hi, I'm money savvy in every other area - but bizarrely I've never ever switched my gas n electric supplier. Currently with British Gas for both, my last fixed deal has just ended therefore I need to do something either change to their online variable which will only save £2.00 Or use a switching company to change to…

standing charge - does this mean
This is aside from direct debits. By paying a standing charge as apose to a A and B rate tarrif I understand this to mean that my gas costs in the winter months would be on the low side, whereas in the summer months in would be on the high side. Paying a standing charge sort of balances out the cost more over the year, as,…

Oil Filled Radiator after £505 Gas Bill!
I'm looking for advice. In March we moved into this lovely RENTED 100 year old building, it has no double glazing and lots of large single glazed windows. There has been issues with the thermostat not working properly to the point we couldn't turn the heating down, some days it was as high as 25.5 degrees and I'd turn off…

Bills for the Occupier - what happens?
Hi, We are ongoing customers with E-on for gas and electric. We moved into our new property in December and supplied our new meter readings and so started a new billing with them. We have been receiving letters from E-on marked to the occupier, which I have opened (previously) and are the bill for a months use before we…

over £150 in credit can I get my money back?
I am currently with EDF and I am over £150 in credit and building credit every month. I pay £50 a month but most I have ever used is £37 in a month (only used about £14 a month during the warmer months). It seems rediculous as all I am doing is building credit and I really can't afford to be paying out far more than I am…

Right to have gas central heating
Hi All, I'm about to buy and move into a first floor flat with electric heating only and no gas supply. Noone in the building (low rise block) has gas connection. The gas mains run in the streets around the building so National Grid say that connection is possible and they gave me a quote for connection work (standard…

Eon Meter Trap ??
I recently received a letter from Eon telling me they were increasing my direct debit from £202pm to £307pm. I just called them and right away without any hassle they said "would you like to go back on your old amount of £202, i said yes and they did! The reason for the hike was they said, because although i was paying…

Direct debit massively underestimated true costs
Three years ago I signed up for direct debit payments on my EDF electricity account. The monthly payments were changed by EDF every few months to reflect the amount of power I was using. Or so I thought. When I switched suppliers last month, I received a final bill for almost £700 from EDF. They had been undercharging me…

Huge unpaid electricity bill in vacant property
Hi, I am hoping to get some advice for my mother. She rented out a property she owns that adjoins hers to a family, using a local letting/management agent. They weren't great tenants, and when my dad became ill (Sept 2011) the agents were advised that the tenancy would would not be renewed. The tenants advised they would…

Getting the best dual fuel price
Hi all, I am attempting to find the best energy deals before I move into another address. I only know the previous occupants were on EON. Does someone know how I would get the best prices. Many thanks, Steven.

NPower and direct debits - FED UP!
Hi Wondered if anyone had a similar problem with NPower as I am fed up. In June 2012 I set up a direct debit with NPower for gas and electricity for a monthly sum of £250. It incorporated a previous bill I was unable to pay along with predicted fuel for coming months. Fine. However, for the next few months, no direct debit…

unfair gas and electricity costs
from january 2011 to january 2012 i lived at a property and had my gas and electricity supplied with british gas. as for the gas they took their own readings as they could gain access from the side of the house to the reading. but the electricity has always been estimated so when i called to set up my direct debits they…
