NPower and direct debits - FED UP!

Hi
Wondered if anyone had a similar problem with NPower as I am fed up.
In June 2012 I set up a direct debit with NPower for gas and electricity for a monthly sum of £250. It incorporated a previous bill I was unable to pay along with predicted fuel for coming months. Fine. However, for the next few months, no direct debit came out. I paid a manual installment in August over the phone and they assured me it would be sorted in September. I made at least another 3 phonecalls to ensure it would be sorted, they said it would. I had a baby around this time so was preoccupied and didn't check to see if the money had come out!
It's obviously now January and no money has been taken out since I set the debit up!!! Then I received a bill a few weeks ago for £400 for the last few months fuel...eh?!!
Can they still make me pay for the last 7 months all at once?! I'm scared to call them now!
Anyone been in this position?

Have you checked your npower online account to see what details they have there?0
-
they wont make you pay all, but wille expect you to catchup I know this happened to a friendDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I didn't know I could check online, I will see if I can do that. They are hopeless. I called them so many times asking if they sorted it, WANTING them to take the money from my account!0

They can't take any money by DD until they have advised you in advance of the amount and date of collection.
Until then, I suggest you put aside what you would normally expect to pay nPower in a nice interest earning savings account of your own0 -

Hi Peekaboo21,
I agree with Wywth.
I have also had a very frustrating time dealing with npower.
npower have been deploying a 'new system', which is - I have been alleging - "not fit for purpose", and which has led to quite a number of secondary issues.
Warning: npower accept new customers without sending them a Contract
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4273611
When there are major issues with the 'new system' it could easily impact other areas.
The main thread (above) has links to other threads where some of these issues have been raised.
If you look at the most recent posts (Page 8, Post #141 ff) you will see that although the 'first symptoms' of the 'broken system at npower' were to do with sending Contracts, and other information, to new Customers we now have evidence of other 'symptoms of failure' with their 'new system'. I expect that this information may not help you directly but, OTOH, imagine you are driving along a motorway and suddenly 'all traffic comes to a halt'. If you hear that there has been a 'crash up ahead' it may help you to be less frustrated.
As npower's 'new system' continues to be used, more and more people phone and email and the result is huge delays in answering the phone, 'poor record keeping' (of the calls), and loss of data.
If you have evidence to add, please do so on the 'main thread' (above).
Some people have posted (in the main thread) that they have had difficulty is setting up their online Account.
Some people have also discovered that npower have 'lost' their information.
I know you don’t want phone them again but I think it would be a wise move.
If you give npower your current meter readings this should trigger a bill based on accurate readings. You should then discuss with them what the new monthly amount should be.
Best wishes,

Hi OP having similiar problem to you. Just had my DD date changed in Dec due to a massive bill created by them not updating my account correctly for the past year, anyway that got sorted. My DD came out as arranged last month but just checked my account today and it hasnt come out= due a week ago. Think im about to start the same merry dance as you starting tomorrow when I phone :-(0
