Considering a flat with an electric boiler
Initially I thought the heating was gas central because the radiators are similar to gas radiators. When I had a look at the boiler I saw it was an Aztec eletric boiler made by Trianco. A 5 minute google search says it is "99.8%" efficient. It seems it is connected to a "duplex unvented cylinder" which leads me to believe…

EDF - positive story for a change!
It seems that people are quick to criticise EDF on here but I just wanted to share my positive story. I switched to the Blue+ Price Promise April 2014 when my Fixed S@ver V2 ended in September. I did this online from the link provided by EDF in the My Account section, so it should have been a…

How to complain about British Gas servicing?
I'm literally sitting in tears of sadness, anger and frustration as I wait (and wait, and wait) for British Gas to send an engineer to fix an electrical fault which has left me with no heating, hot water, dishwasher or washing machine for over a week. They sent an engineer last Monday to diagnose the fault - he made a…

Connecting to gas main?
We currently have oil heating but want to change to a gas combi boiler for next winter. There is gas on our street so connection shouldn't be a problem I m told. My question is do I have to arrange this via British gas or are there others who can quote? Also anything else I should be aware of, tips etc? Many thanks!

Npower direct debit rip off
Npower have raised my direct debit from 100 to 150 pounds a month. I am on a product (Bil saver 2013) which expires end of August 2013. They have based the new payment on a 12 month estimate but the last three months of their calculation is based on their standard fee which is more expensive. Who is to say that ater my…

Switching from a pre-payment meter to direct debit.
Hi, We moved into the property (rented) a couple of days ago and it has a gas and electricity pre-payment meter. Our private landlord is happy for us to switch but how do we go about it? I tried doing a comparison but it only comes up with pre-payment meter tariffs.

Gas usage on misconfigured boiler
My pipes from the boiler are the wrong way round, ie the flow is connected to the return boiler port. The result is the thermistor shuts the boiler down too quickly as it thinks the "return" water is too hot. So my boiler clicks on and off every 2 mins whilst it is heating up the house. My gas man I've used for years is…

Electric Rads or Storage Heaters
I have four electric storage heaters in my flat which are kaput. They are being taken out and I am uncertain what to replace them with. My partner and I are out at work in the daytime during the working week and I have heard (from Dealec) that with intelligent programming electric radiators can compete with storage heaters…

Power cut
Don't know if anyone can help, but here goes: We were woken this morning by our baby monitor beeping - it had lost contact with the other unit - at about 4.30am! We realised we had no power, and further investigation showed the whole street out. Ringing Western Power Distribution at about 5am, we got a recorded message…

Any positive reasons for electric heating?
Are there any truly good reasons for having electric radiators instead of gas central heating? Or is it just a case of people getting stuck without the upfront cash to install GCH (or stuck renting from a slumlord who refuses to)? I was just looking at flats to buy in York, nothing serious but I was feeling nosey, and I've…
