NPower direct debit discounts
N Power forgot to give their direct debit annual discount of £40. Though have now received correct bill after complaining, how many people are not noticing and so being overcharged

N Power switch delay
I went to switch to NPower Jan 14 discounted tariff via energyhelpline in early November and informed my current supplier Ebico which should have meant as long as Npower contacted them within 2 weeks I would not be charged Ebico increased tariff from 4th December. Now get letter from NPower saying switch may be delayed for…

EDF overcharging
My elderly mother had a bill in March from EDF stating that that her direct debit would be reduced from £58 to £1 per month as the account was hundreds of pounds in credit. They have continued to collect £58 per month. Of course I have helped her complain, so make sure you check elderly or less able relatives to ensure…

Impossibly high gas consumption
Hello everyone! I live in a 4-bedroom house together with 4 other people (that makes 5 of us). Our gas & electricity supplier is British Gas. A while back, the housemate which held the accounts decided to move out, so I moved the accounts to my name. Since then, I have received a bill on the 1st of October, and since then,…

EDF direct debit annoyance
Just had an email with my latest EDF bill and am as confused as I usually am with this company. I basically had credit with them until my bill was due, and after it now being paid, I am still £80 in credit with them. However, despite this, and the fact meter readings were supplied and so the bill was accurate, they want to…

Average Increase - Electricity
My provider has hiked rates by 24% over econ7 & std tariff which is 17.65% on econ7 & 6.25% on std tariff. They say average rise is 11.95% overall but as we use 80% econ7 & 20% std that cannot be right. How do you calculate the average ? Is there a cheaper option as I cannot find one on comparison sites.

Am I really going to save £300...
a year when when I get cavity wall insulation? And does cavity wall insulation really make any difference? The walls upstairs (semi-detatched house) are really very cold, and have water on them when we get condensation from running the bath, cooking etc. (no mould though) Also, we have double glazing (there from when we…

Option if i don't qualify for free insulation
Hi guys, hope this is the right place to post - looking for advice: have moved house (70s house) and it has had lounge cavity wall insulation and some loft insulation. There is a smaller separate loft (we are on a hill and its split level and the bigger loft is over just half of the house) space over downstairs bedroom and…

Experience with EDF
I would like to share my experience with EDF over the last year, and find out if anyone else has had similar issues. I switched to EDF in June 2011 so I could get a 4 year fixed price dual fuel tariff. The switchover from Scottish Power was relatively smooth, but then the problems started. I have not been able to submit an…

Beware E.ON Tesco Club-card new tariffs
Be very wary of E.On's new cheapest offer E.ON are charging extra for club-card points. At the end of the proposal you are offered to either take your discount in money off your bill or have Tesco Club-card points E.on charge you in your bill for the Tesco Club-card points in my case they wanted to charge me approx £52 to…

Radio Telewitch use by social landlord and Power Company
Can anyone tell me if they know if Power Companies can switch White Meter storage heating on (even if it is turned off at wall or turned to 0 on input dial)? ie the customer didn't want heating at that time and switched off. But found that electricity was being consumed during very cold spells. I think it is something done…

Query about free insulation
I live in a council property and wondered if anyone knew how could go about getting the free cavity and loft insulation that everyone else gets for free? If you own or private rent then you can have it done for free, but in the terms and conditions all companies exclude council properties and I wondered why? British Gas…

Gas and electricity costs
Apologies if this is a redundant thread but I'm unsure of the best I could possibly do to reduce overall costs without affecting my usage. I don't understand why sometimes my gas costs more than it does at other times. Someone mentioned that there may be a cap on what I'm paying thereby charging on certain amounts -- I do…

green and ethical electricity
If I switch to green and ethical electricity company that only generates electricity from wind and solar power, how can I be sure that I am getting green and ethical electricity and not electricity from a nuclear power plant or even imported from France? Especially on a windless dark night when no wind or solar electricity…

Problems with Scottish Power
Hello. I'm looking for some advice here. I've been having financial problems for a while and a big part of the problem is my monthly payments to Scottish Power which at one point were up to £125 a month (although there are apparently some arrears in there.) The problem is I seem to be getting conflicting information on…

Efficiency of a oil filled heater
If over a 5 hour period I heated a room to a certain temp with outside temperature constant, first using a 1kw heater for 5 hours at a set temperature, then using a 3KW heater for 5 hours set at the same temperature. Would I in theory use the same amount of electricity at 1kw and 3kw for the 5 hour period. What I am trying…

Can't change. Won't change
My elderly mum is on Staywarm with E-on, and I reckon she's paying far too much. But E-on tells me she can only move to the "normal" tariff or keep with Staywarm. They tell me her meter is an "Economy 8" meter, and, unlike my own, doesn't allow me to check the number of units she's using. I thought anyone was allowed to…
