Beware E.ON Tesco Club-card new tariffs

Be very wary of E.On's new cheapest offer E.ON are charging extra for club-card points. At the end of the proposal you are offered to either take your discount in money off your bill or have Tesco Club-card points E.on charge you in your bill for the Tesco Club-card points in my case they wanted to charge me approx £52 to have £42 worth of Club-card points after i challenged this on the phone i was told that they charge 2% of your bill for the club-card points so in effect you are paying extra money plus some profit for E.On to get your own money back less in Club-card points than they charged you for them.

Don't fall for the well you can double up either Tesco don't always have double up.

This is a outright con on E.ON's part

Once you have agreed to the contract E.ON will hold you to it no escape BE WARNED

ALWAYS CHECK BEFORE YOU SIGN UP TO ANYTHING

How can it be a con if it explains the options and gives you a choice?
  • I thought there were laws on miss leading hidden charges they should state that they will charge you. some people like my parents save the club-card points up to get at Christmas it used to be you got 1 point for every pound you spend but now it is buy your own points but it don't state that con hidden charges.

There is nothing hidden. The comparison sites show me that the "with points" tariffs are £10 pa dearer than the corresponding "without". For that £10 I would get 1050 points for dual fuel, 1050 points for direct debit plus loyalty points, 1050 for 1 year, 1550 for 2 years and 2100 for 3 years. Yes you now have to pay extra for the points but everything is up front and was the first thing I noticed when these were introduced and why I mentioned this in a post on 27.09.2012.

    Hi Swampy

Sorry you're unhappy with our new tariffs.

Just to be clear, customers switching to one of our new products have the choice of taking the rewards as cash or as Tesco Clubcard points.

It's up to the individual customer as to the option they prefer.

This is explained on our website, in the product information and in the terms and conditions. Sorry again for any confusion.

  • A slightly unrelated question but I checked my clubcard statement after reading this and realised I've not been getting any points since I swapped to Saveonline11. I rang them to query this and was tol my tariff doesn't allow for club card points. Anyone else on this tariff which can confirm this is the case?

    Hi bagpussruth,

It is correct I'm afraid, we don't give Tesco clubcard points on the SaveOnline tariff.

We have changed the way we offer points on the new tariff's, you can have a word with us or look on the website for more info.
