EDF overcharging

My elderly mother had a bill in March from EDF stating that that her direct debit would be reduced from £58 to £1 per month as the account was hundreds of pounds in credit. They have continued to collect £58 per month. Of course I have helped her complain, so make sure you check elderly or less able relatives to ensure they do not get overcharged and suffer financial hardship as a result

Wow - Hundreds of £'s in credit in March, and on a D/D of only £58 ? !

DO NOT TRUST the figures on just one bill.
Check the accuracy of this credit by going thro' Mums past bills to establish what her Annual consumption & cost actually is - If she is showing a credit of this value near the end of Winter, every bill for the past year should be showing a credit, and some before that.

If you are satisfied that the credit value on this last bill is 'true', do not accept EDF's £1 D/D plan - Demand they return all the credit value above £174, this will cover her increased Winter bills
Work out what her correct D/D should be from the historical bills, and demand EDF reduce her present D/D payements to that level
  • Thanks for advice, she was only on tariff for 18 months. Have decided to switch to a better tariff with british gas so should get all the credit back when transfer happens......
