Power cut
Don't know if anyone can help, but here goes:
We were woken this morning by our baby monitor beeping - it had lost contact with the other unit - at about 4.30am!
We realised we had no power, and further investigation showed the whole street out. Ringing Western Power Distribution at about 5am, we got a recorded message saying they know about the outage, and expect it back by 8am. Fair enough we thought, we had torches and candles, so went back to bed.
Getting up again about 7ish, we made ourselves a cold drink, and managed to warm up slowly a bottle of ready-made formula for our baby.
Just after 8am, we rang WPD again, and got another recording saying power not back until 4pm!!
Sod this we thought, and rang my SIL who is 40 mins away, inviting ourselves over for the day.....
We took the meat & veg from our fridge, plus bits for baby, and bought some more meat/veg on the way so there would be enough for us all for lunch.
We rang WPD a couple of times, the last one at about 3.10pm, and got the same message. We headed home about 3.15, and arrived just before 4. Spoke to our neighbour when we arrived, and he said his power came on at 7.30am. On entering the house, we soon realised our power was still off. Rang WPD again, and got a different message saying " we are aware of the problem and are investigating. If you do not have power within 1 hour, please ring again"
The power eventually came on about 45 mins later - 12.25 hours after going off...
Sorry it is long winded, but are we entitled to anything for the inconvenience, as we had no heating / cooking facilities which is why we went out????

The outage has to be for more than 18 hours before you start to get any compensation. Sorry.0

Out there somewhere in the wind in the rain will be some men up to their necks in mud, down a hole digging for a dodgy cable.....Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

If it is WPD that deals with your electricity network you can't have failed to notice the adverse weather flooding substations, roads and even entire villages? Saturday night saw 80 MPH winds uprooting trees and snapping branches like twigs. Is it any wonder we've had power cuts? I have here too, it's inconvenient, but worthy of compensation? For what exactly? You want them to pay for your candles?
My hat goes off to the workers at Western Power who worked until the early hours digging the road up to find a faulty cable, the hole they were digging filling with water as quick as they could empty it. They stuck with it and fixed the fault though. Fair play guys!0 -
Aw shucks... I was reading that, thinkiing, bless 'em, they've made the best of a bad job and had a great day out with SIL, and how you were gonna get savvy for future problems, did anyone have advice etc etc.0
