Gas usage on misconfigured boiler
My pipes from the boiler are the wrong way round, ie the flow is connected to the return boiler port. The result is the thermistor shuts the boiler down too quickly as it thinks the "return" water is too hot.
So my boiler clicks on and off every 2 mins whilst it is heating up the house.
My gas man I've used for years is poorly, it should be sorted fairly soon but I'm curious, could this behaviour be costing a noticable amount more in gas usage?
Can anyone hazard a guess? I've always been taught boilers are most efficient when they have been and are running at nearly max, not stop start. Wether this would affect bills I'm not sure?
Thanks

Yes, it will affect bills to a limited degree.
Not really very much typically.
In some cases it might actually lower bills (if the actual loop temperature means it's condensing more).
This is unlikely.
If you can lower the output of the boiler, this may mean the cycle period is lower.0 -
Thanks, also to clarify its an old style boiler, non condensing
I found if I put the pump on 3 and boiler on max it stays on longest. Slowing the pump and turning down boiler stat and intervals fall so the boiler on stays on for less than 2 mins.
However pump on 3 produces air in system0 -
instead of more & more threads here & on another forum about your boiler & it's faults why don't you just get the flow & ret swapped round the right way, you never know this may solve your probs.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

I will be getting it swapped but it might not be until after Christmas. The gas man I use isn't well and I was curious to know whether it would cost me noticeably more with its behaviour. Tha would prompt me to look for another engineer.
I know I've posted a lot about my boiler but its been very hard to find a diagnosis, in the end I only discovered the problem by reading the manual thoroughly. So it's taken many threads and quite some time to reach the conclusion that the pipes are the wrong way.0
