British Gas Social Tariff rules discriminate against disabled people
I have just tried registering for the British Gas Essentials Tariff. We are already on their cheapest Websaver Tariff but I thought I'd have a go at getting the latest price increase deferred until April. My husband suffers from Parkinson's Disease and receives Pension Credit Guarantee, DLA, Incapacity Benefit and a very…

British Gas - Lock In
Hi, I must be missing something. Back in the Summer, I agreed to a new British Gas electricity tariff, and it came with a lock in (thought it was 12 or 18 months), which given the price I was happy enough to take. I've now had an email from them telling me that they're putting the price up. Surely if they change the price,…

council vs carbon footprint
i have a question for you.. the government is encouraging everyone to cut energy costs, insulate, double glaze our homes etc. to reduce our carbon footprint, so why is our local council, (powys) installing electric extractor fans when they fit new kitchens? i don't mind the fan per se, but i wondered why my electric…

Scottish Power Arrears
Hello. I switched to Scottish Power in Sept 2008 and set up the direct debit. I received ongoing mail saying than thanks for your payments etc. They have told me debits were collected from someone else's account and so I am now £3000 in arrears. It is the first time anything has gone wrong like this and I just presumed…

British Gas Billing
Hi, I received a letter from BG on 23rd October, and my account was in Debit at an amount which simply seemed way too much. So, I called up and gave them a meter reading (8367) and the woman told me to rip up the estimated bill and a new one would be sent out. So, I asked her how much this would be for and she replied that…

Economy 10 - bad idea?
I moved into a property with no gas which had electric storage heaters on Economy 7. They were very old and the water boiler needed replacing, so I am having electric central heating (radiators) installed. It is a Heatrae Sadia boiler and I have been advised by the plumber to switch to an Economy 10 meter (as per the…

No meter reading for 3 years
Hi everyone, I'm after some advice regarding my npower electricity supply. I have recently received a bill which shows I am £170 in credit, upon contacting them for the refund, I was advised they would not do this as the bill was an estimate. When I asked the date of the last reading I was advised it has never been read…

Low income electricity tarrifs
Hi I'm hoping someone on the forum can advise me. We have a friend (57yrs) who lives in Ayrshire whose sole income is Incapacity Benefit - £185 every 2 weeks. I call her every morning to see if she is still alive. She has recently come out of hospital after having a partial hip replacement. The flat has no central heating…

Single Fuel = no bonus
I know that the utility companies want you to have both your gas and electric supply from them and that's why they offer a "Dual Fuel" bonus. What about those of us who are all electric due to there being no gas in the immediate area? This seems like we are subsidising the customers who have the option. Anyone tried to…

I recently changed to E.on SaveOnline 3 which states that it will be at least 6% cheaper than the standard rate which looking at it now may have been a mistake due to the recent advice. Currently on a rate of 17.62 for the first 900kw with 9.15p at 6% cheaper than the standard rate until 1st November. My old company…
