is this a valid energy (Gas) saving article?
Hello everyone, As a true MSE follower, I am trying my best to keep warm but keep costs reasonable. I usually keep it on for 2 hours in the morning and about 6-8 hours each evening but this article says this is not economical. It instead advises; "It is far better to run the heating constantly, but at a lower temperature.…

Useage
I know its not scientific. But. How many kwh are you burning on average over this cold spell. For us the average is about 12-15 for a 4 bed house. trying to be a little conservative. The outside tempertature hasent risen above freezing for the last ten days or so. So i know its all relative but if this keeps up I will be…

What temperature should your thermostat be at?
This probably sounds really dim, but what temperature is the "normal" to set a thermostat at? Ours is currently at 30'c which is the highest it will go. Is this too high?? I wouldnt say the house is particularly warm, in fact i'm guessing the insulation is pretty crap because it needs to be on a good couple of hours before…

British Gas prepayment meter woes
Hi all Another rant from me about British Gas. I'm no longer with them but they have just sent a letter to the previous occupant who still seems to have an account with them for the electricity prepayment meter that I had removed a few weeks ago. It says that she is on the Fixed Price 2012 tariff with a unit price of…

During sub-zero temps, daily gas of 13-15 units average?
During this horrid sub-zero cold snap we're using about 8-9 units of m3 gas with heating on for 7 hours (2 in morning, 5 in evening). However to stop our son's room from dropping down to 12/13c we're leaving heating on low from 10pm till 7am in addition to the normal 5hrs per evening. This is using about 13-15 units per…
