Swalec are trying to stiff me for over £1400. Not only do they demand I pay them a debt I've already paid off, they want me to repay the bill for the entire time I lived at my previous address (they call this 'backbilling'). I lived in a two bedroom flat that had been converted from two separate bedsits, and there were two electricity meters on the wall, neither of which I could read because they were too high for me to reach. Swalec estimated that a two bedroom flat uses £52 a month in electricity. Can anyone tell me if that's a reasonable estimate? They're 'backbilling' me for 2003-6. Can they do this when I haven't heard from them for 4 years? I told them I'd moved but I wouldn't give my new address because they'd previously sent a man round to demand money from me and he'd refused to leave though I asked him 3 times. Is that legal? Can anybody advise me? I'm waiting for Swalec to send me their information they have on me, which has cost me £10. They've passed my 'debt' to a collection agency and it may end up in court which i don't want. I suffer from depression and mobility problems and I don't want this to send me over the edge. Getting through the winter is bad enough. Kindly post advice and suggestions.
