What temperature should your thermostat be at?

This probably sounds really dim, but what temperature is the "normal" to set a thermostat at? Ours is currently at 30'c which is the highest it will go. Is this too high?? I wouldnt say the house is particularly warm, in fact i'm guessing the insulation is pretty crap because it needs to be on a good couple of hours before we even start to feel any benefit of it being on! Should I just turn it down anyway? I'm guessing this is costing me more money having it set so high?

Where is your stat positioned?
What type of boiler do you have?
Where do you need to heat your home the most?0 -
Its on the wall in the living room leading to the hallway & front door.
I'm not sure tbh. http://www.honeywelluk.com/Products/Time-Controls/Wired/ST9400C/ This is the timer thing on the wall, if that helps any, & we have a water tank in one of the bedroom wardrobes.
Its open plan with open stairs in the living room, but mainly we want to heat the living room & our sons bedroom.COMP WINS FOR HUBBY & I SINCE SEPTEMBER:2 £50 DOMINOS VOUCHERS, 13 PAIRS OF FOOTBALL TICKETS, MICROSOFT HOME EDTN, 2 PAIRS OF ALTON TOWERS TICKETS, 1 CASE OF PERCY PIGS, 1 PAIR OF LEATHER LADIES GLOVES, 4 COLLECTION 2000 PRODUCTS, PLAYSTATION 3 WITH FIFA 12, 5* HOTEL STAY IN LONDON, SEASON 6 OF SUPERNATURAL DVD, PERFECT PIZZA VOUCHER0 -
Thermostat works by telling the boiler to turn off when you reach that temperature.
If you house is not getting above 20 degrees (around the thermostat) then there is no difference having it set to 21 than 30...0 -
In this weather my hall thermostat isn't even getting up to 15 degrees, but the temperature in the lounge will be between 18 degrees and 20 degrees. Comfortable enough and I keep the doors closed.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Thanks MB. Yes, take an independent temp reading of the room. Make sure that stat is not near a heat source like the rad. How big is the room (L X W X H). How big is the rad?0

yes it will. If you have a combi boiler turn it on full & make sure the pressure is around 1.5 bar0 -
30c is far too hot to be setting a thermostat to. Most people will air condition buildings if they reach 30c with any regularity.
Try setting it to 18c-22c. If it can't maintain 18c then it'll be running flat out (subject to the timer) and having it set to 30c won't make any difference to running cost (or heat output) In the colder weather the heating will need to come on earlier to bring the house up to comfortable temperature.
When the milder weather returns, having it set to 30c will mean the house will overheat and get far too warm.0 -

Smart man! Many people think what ever they set the stat to the whole house will get to that temp.0 -
Thats the way lozzaman. Lets be confident. When the milder weather comes. Probably about May.:)
Feels like the ice age has started here up north.
Heres hoping.0
