    Was that 12-15 cubic metres?
I rented for a while a 2 bedroom new build that was amazingly well insulated (just the oven would make the place warm enough if it was 0c or above out!) and I think I used more than that per day even then. My summer gas usage there (living alone!) wouldn't have been much lower.

On the other end of the spectrum I rented as a student a cavity wall (not insulated) house we constantly kept at 25c. We never had to pay the gas or electricity bill, and as 7 of us sharing we managed to average.

    48KWh electricity use.
Over 200KWh gas, in this weather it'd be well over 400KWh per day!

We knew it was wasteful, but it's "getting your moneys worth" and I never once did feel cold in that house, even waking up at 5am!

I hate the timer on our boiler. There is no option to have heating on without hot water. So, at the moment heating is on most of the time and we are heating water all that time as well! There's only two of us and our showers are electric so don't use hot water. Such a waste. :( I'm having more baths so the hot water gets used up but of course that goes on the water bill.

We lived in a well insulated second floor flat until August. It was toasty all year round. Now in a four bed detached house and my god it's colder. We tried having heating on for a few hours early morning and then again in the evening as we are out all day, but the house got so cold in between that it wouldn't warm up again in the time the heating was on. So now on a lower thermostat setting 24/7 (set at 18 but I think it's squiffy - heating clicks off when the room the thermostat is in feels nowhere near 18 degrees!). Can only imagine what the gas bill will be like.

And it's still a LOT colder downstairs than upstairs. We are gradually fiddling with the rads, turning upstairs ones down and downstairs ones up but not got it balanced yet.

    Bring on summer!
  • I live in a mid terraced house (insulation either side) the thermostat is in the living room (why do people have them in the hall?) because that is where we are most of the time. Double glazing (wooden windows) roof insulation etc. Thermostat set at around 17 or 18 is sufficient.

Neighbour having work done next door exposing one wall - the temperature drop in the hall was dramatic.
