British Gas - Lock In

Hi,

I must be missing something.

Back in the Summer, I agreed to a new British Gas electricity tariff, and it came with a lock in (thought it was 12 or 18 months), which given the price I was happy enough to take.

I've now had an email from them telling me that they're putting the price up.

Surely if they change the price, that should negate my lock in?

Thoughts?

Whats the name of your tariff, It may be an online tariff you signed up for or a tracker deal which would be variable.

If it says it's a variable tariff in the conditions then you don't have any grounds for getting out of the contact.

Because there is a minimum term on a variable tariff, that doesn't mean the price is fixed for the duration of the contract!

The tariff was websaver 9 (I think).

Purely my own stupidity. It never even occurred to me that they could change the price once I'd committed to it.

Al utility and telecoms contracts allow price changes in the T&C's (unless they are fixed price contracts, for which you will of course pay a premium).
