British Gas Billing

Hi,
I received a letter from BG on 23rd October, and my account was in Debit at an amount which simply seemed way too much. So, I called up and gave them a meter reading (8367) and the woman told me to rip up the estimated bill and a new one would be sent out.
So, I asked her how much this would be for and she replied that the account was actually in credit and she would adjust my DD to a lower rate.
So, that was fine until today. I have now received a bill for £2700, so I called BG and explained the situation and gave another reading (8915). The person on the end of the phone said that the bill should be slightly more than £2700.
So, I asked how could I be in credit on the 23rd of October and have my DD reduced and now, 6 weeks on be in £2700+ debt. He said he would look into it, and check why the DD was reduced and try and add some compensation to the overall amount - does this sound right to anyone????
Thanks.

Were you previous bills based on actual or estimate readings? When did you previously supply them with a reading?
Go through back to your last actual reading/billing and work out what your actual consumption has been subsequently, then you can work out approx what that should cost and how much you have paid already by DD.
Assuming you have a metric meter, not imperial, you have used about 548 units or 6,028kWh in 6 weeks, which is very high. What is your annual consumption? No free lunch, and no free laptop

They were based on Estimate, and when I had the initial large bill, I called to query - giving them the initial reading of 8367 (which put me in Credit). But, now they are claiming I am £2700 in debit, but they are yet to call back.0

Don't rely on their figs, do your own calculations as suggested.
And read and supply your own readings at least every 3 months. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for the tip, I just hope this can be resolved.0
