Scottish Power Capped price

Hi, everyone!
Never been on a capped plan as i never quite got the idea - but i decided to change my price plan as now my son sleeps in his bedroom and we're warming the whole house. I signed up for Scottish Power Capped plan thinking as it was a year cap price i only had to pay the cap price. Submitted my readings the other day and was 20 GBP in debit, so i got an email saying my direct debits are rising from 58 to 79 pounds. I don't moan that i have to pay more (i use it i'll pay it) but what was the point of this year cap price plan? Can anyone help me understand this?
Thank you!
