Switching from British gas prepay

I currently recieve both gas and electric from British Gas on pre pay meters, I wish to switch to a normal meter if possible. I am however finding conflicting infomation about the cost of switching, any experience you have with this will be greatly appreciated. Also, if British Gas change the meters over am I then obliged to stay with them? Thank you for taking the time to read.

You need to ask British Gas to change them for you. They'll want to do a credit check but presuming that's okay they will probably change them for you at no cost to you. And then you can change suppliers if you like.

Edit: I should have said that they changed mine for me at no cost and then I changed suppliers, which is how I know.

Have you actually asked your supplier?

Where has the conflicting information come from?

If from your supplier, put the request for details in writing and ask for a full written response ... then you can revert to that if they try and change the terms later.
