nPower charging us £54 per month DD
The last 6 months worked out at £350 all in, and that's with using the storage heater a lot, surely the DD should be less than £54 for the summer months? We're moving out in September!

is it wise to change electricity company now?
Moved into flat 6 months ago, only found out supplier 2 weeks ago is nPower, called them to arrange payment, I know they're not the cheapest, EDF Saver Version 6 seems to be cheapest, however we only plan to stay here for another 6 months, so would we have to pay a cancellation fee when we move out?

We have recently moved into premises that has storage heaters and hot water boiler all on economy 7 and the metering has a radio teleswitch. We have not been given instructions on how to use the storage heaters. Anyway on moving in I took readings of both dials and then again today which is 5 days later and to my horror I…

Eon review - direct debit to double!
I've just had my payment review from Eon and they basically want to double my direct debit payments. My latest bill shows that I am in credit by about £35 which I know isn't much but as we are coming to the warmer months (hopefully) I don't see how they can justify such a big increase. I intend phoning them to get…

Another Scottish Power thread...
Hi, just left Atlantic (useless shower, have been unable to reach them on the phone for nearly 6 weeks!!) and have switched to Scottish Power. I have had written confirmation that I am on Online Energy Saver 8, but damned if I can find what the unit rates are for both Gas and Electric economy 7. I've just spoken to them…

Scottish Power charging for Electric not received
Hi there, Am after a bit of advice. A couple of years ago I ran up a big debt with Scottish Power resulting in me having to change to a Pre-Payment meter. I was fine with this and happily took on a PPM. The initial debt was £765. This has been paid off in full and I have now switched provider. However I have recently…

Huge EDF gas bill - trying to establish why
It's always a bit of a mystery when you move to a new house... you never know how expensive the utilities will be until you've been through the first winter. So... EDF gas bill, central heating and hot water only, 10 Nov 2009 to 11 Mar 2010... £760 WTFF?! That's 17965kwh @3.861p, plus about 30 quid of standing…

Just moved in with a prepayment meter
I have just moved into a house that has a prepayment meter for both gas and electric. It is with e.on. The landlord says he is happy for me to have the meters removed and standard ones put in, but I am not sure whether to do it or not. In the short time I have been here I have noticed that I actively monitor it quite…

Scottish power thanking me for switching to their micro business tariff
I switched to Scottish Power about a month ago. They said they would put me on their online dual fuel tariff but have decided they won't know as the house I bought has prepayment meters and they won't change them for 12 months. They sent me a new gas card but they still haven't sent me an electric key. Today I've had a…

Gas conversion to kwh formula.
I'm sure that everybody knows now that British Gas lowered their prices in February this year but I've today received my latest gas bill & notice something strange: Up until the price reduction the formula for converting units used to kwh (kilowatt hours) was = UNITS USED X 39.1131 (calorific value) X 1.0226400 divided by…

Any problems in switching if you have a smart meter?
Considering switching to First Utility (best buy on comparison). They install a smart meter free, and do no have a minimum contract period. Question is what happens if I want to change again to another supplier - do I have to have there meters removed (and at what cost?) or do other supplier just use them as basic meters?

Is This Right?
Sunday a few weeks back, we noticed something burning, it turns out it was the wires burning in the mains system, but before we found out that, we turned the electric and everything else off. We called British Gas, and they did send someone out to us, but they didnt seem to care we couldve died, instead they asked us to…

Help to Understand Bill. Thanks.
I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot but I've just contacted my gas/electric company over a new bill after giving accurate readings. Anyway, the original bill was for £359.21 (£342.11 ex vat) on gas. 673(cm) = 7494 kWh. First 2651 at 8.360p next 4843 at 2.488p. Bill estimate reading was for date 16/2/10. I phoned up with my…

Comparison websites
A neighbour asked me to have a look on the comparison websites to see if I can get a better deal for gas & electric I have got their readings for the last year. They are with British Gas for both on the essential tariff, so I cannot compare the prices properly. I have put the Kwh in and compared this to the standard…
