Hi there moneysavers
I'm wondering if anyone can help advise me in the best way to ending up on the cheapest electricity tariff! Here's my situation:
I currently live in a "all bills included" rented palce so I have no accounts with any utility provider.
I'm about to move into a rented place which is currently occupied by my future landlady. She's moving out and she has electric (no gas in the flat) with EON.
Whats the best way for us to progress? Perform a name changing excercise on her account first and then go to comparison/cashback sites or to go to comparison sites first and be set up as a new customer?
I'll be going through a similar process for the phoneline and water if anyone can help there too!
Any help muchly appreciated, I know this may seem trivial to some of you but this will be my first time "switching" when I don't have an account in the first place to switch!
Thanks!

She will obvious close allot of the accounts when see leaves as she can get her final bill.
When you move in make sure you get a meter reading you BOTH agree on she will provide this for her final bill and you will need this when you open an account
You will need to keep your account with EON to start(I belive) with but only go onto a standard tariff without lock ins then you can change supplier as you require remember it can take up to two months.
Water you just have to inform the current company unless its a water meter
Phone might be tricky find out who she pay line rental too she might be a bit funny if you move to an LLU operator as thier is often some big charge for moving around0 -

No no no, phone up Eon, tell them you're moving in on date X and setup a new account for yourself in your own name and give them an accurate meter reading (Eon will have a well established person X moving out / person Y moving in procedure to follow)
That way her account gets closed off and she is liable for all her useage, you'll have a clean fresh starrt and no nasty estimate/backlog/overhang comming and giving you a nasty suprise down the line
you 'should' then be immediately free to switch suppliers -> do a comparison on uswitch etc to find the cheapest (ask your outgoing landlady if she can give an indication of annual useage in kWH -does she have a bill/reading from roughly a year ago?). THEN don't switch on uswitch but go via a cashback site that will pay you most to switch to that deal.0 -
Hi geekinaseat
Best thing to do is close down the existing account in your landlady's name and open a new account in your name. Do this on the day you take over responsibility for the property.
Give us a call with the meter readings on the day responsibility changes. We will issue a final bill to your landlady using this reading. Your account will then start from the same reading.
Ask your landlady what her usage has been like over the past year. Details will be on her previous bills or we will be happy to tell her if she calls us. Pop this on to one of the comparison sites and see what the best deals are.
It can take between 4 and 6 weeks to change supplier. Therefore, if you decide to switch, I would still make sure your new account with us is on a competitive tariff whilst the change goes through. Just make sure you don't choose one with cancellation charges.
Hope this helps, geekinaseat. Give me a shout if you need any more info and good luck with the move.
