I'm currently with npower economy 7. The only paperwork I can find says I'm on sol 11, so assumeing I am still on this as have never changed any details.
I want to switch to a different supplier (probably e-on so I can get clubcard points) but I'm lost in a sea of information!
When I switch, I don't want to be on economy 7, will I need a new meter? On the switch websites it doesn't seem to give you the option of coming off economy 7?
Oh goodness me, please help!!

You can't do an E7 to standard meter comparison. If you know your annual consumption for both E7 dials add this together then enter the number and gain a quote against standard meters.
Some companies charge for installing a new meter and some don't, so check thi out with the company you chose.0 -
Some electricity companies will fit new meters for free, some will charge.
Others will retain your present E7 meters and let you move to a standard tariff. They add the two readings and treat it as one total. e.g. 200units(kWh) on your off-peak meter and 1,000 units on your day meter will be treated as a total of 1,200 units.
You need to go to a comparison website and enter your estimated consumption for a standard tariff and determine which company is best; then ring the company and determine their policy on changing meters.0 -
I've just done this last week because I got gas central heating in and didn't need my three rate meter.
At first Scottish Power wanted £50 to change the meter but I grumbled a bit and she came back with ok, we'll waive the charge.
To be honest, I would get the meter changed first, then look at switching. Assuming you present company will do it for nothing. The first appointment I could get was 10 working days, so it's not a fast process. I needed to wait another 4 days for their system to update for them to get the final readings from the meter man. (wouldn't accept them from me).
As far as switching goes, I'm about to try and guestimate my usage as I've obviously not got electric heating now and don't know how much gas I'll be using.
