travel money cards
i've been using the halifax clarity card for our regular trips to our Spanish holiday home. The exchange rate is so good making it good even for cash withdrawals. My question is could I avoid the interest payments by overpaying my card balance so I'm in credit before going? We have a regular need to send money to our…

BT's & Capital One
I am about to make a couple of big purchases and transfer the balance over to a 0% card. Does anyone know of any problems in transferring from a Capital One Progress card? I know some cards won't let you make transfers from them, so thought it might be a good idea to check here first;) Thanks

Use of Fake Credit card details to buy stuff online
This is a spin off from another post. Basically I got delivered a mobile phone I did not order but it was all in my name. This is a known scam - shortly after it arrives the scammer phones to say it was a mistake and can they send a courier to collect it. I said no as I had already spoken to the mobile phone company so…

Credit Card payment not taken by Hotel
On the 22/07/2013 I booked a hotel stay in the Uk for 1 night for the 26/07/2013 via their website and gave them my credit card details as requested. Paid for the extras in cash. Yesterday the hotel contacted me via email saying that they needed payment as I only guaranteed my stay with my credit card. Do I need to pay…

Bad Debt, Balance Transfer, Credit Limit.
Greetings Money Saving Experts, I have a relatively large bad debt on a credit card which I am looking at switching to a 0% or low interest rate deal. However the "assumed credit limit" on the new card is less than half of the bad debt or can this "assumed credit limit" be adjusted? What's the best way to shift the bad…

Why do we have to pay customer help calls
Hi All, I am new here but I thought I had to raise this issue, I realise over the last years nearly all companies make you use 0845, 0844, 0870 etc numbers that will charge you for calling their customer support centres, I feel this is ridiculous so the suppliers are making us pay for them to help us which should be part…

Credit card - minimum payment market on credit report
Hi, I'll try and make this brief as some people can go into too much detail on this board! Basically I have two credit cards (now that Aqua has closed). Halifax clarity reward, and CapitalOne World Aspire. I use the Capital One from time to time, when I want to get the 0.5% cashback, however there have been stretches of…

How long should a refund take?
I made a reservation with Holiday Inn and they messed up and overcharged me a significant amount (£640!). I called them up on Tuesday (11 feb) and sorted this out with them and they promised to refund the amount straight away. The refund still hasn't shown on my statement and I spoke with the bank this morning and they…

My first credit card
Hi, I am new to the forum, and pretty much new to the concept of credit cards! Me and my wife are likely going to get a mortgage in the next 2-3 years or so and neither of us have ever had a credit card (CC) . This is clearly not good as we have not built up a credit score. The purpose of the CC would simply be to build up…

Balance transfer to Amex
I couldn't find the answer to my question through a couple of searches so at risk of duplicating others I'll just ask it: if I spend around GBP2k on my Amex on air tickets in order to get travel insurance thrown in can I balance transfer this amount to say an MBNA card that will be 0% for a year? Or is Amex considered…

Closing a bank account - is my CC affected?
Hello I'm planning to switch from my Bank of Scotland Reward Current Account to Santander 123, but I'd really like to keep my Halifax credit card as it's so useful abroad. Does anyone know if I'll be allowed to retain the credit card once the bank account is closed? Thanks

AVIOS Points
Hi all So I've been using my Lloyds AMEX card (have the duo) almost exclusively now over the past few months and have accumulated circa 5k points. I logged onto the website to see what the offers were like - I was mainly interested in flights. I wasn't looking to see what I could do with my points now, but maybe in the…

Credit limit Indicative of the rate?
I have applied for a Barclays platinum card with 31 months at 0% for BT's. I was accepted but when I called they were unable to confirm if I was accepted for the 0% rate however I was shocked at the large credit limit I was given. Could a large credit limit indicate I was successful in obtaining the 0% rate?
