Balance transfer to Amex

I couldn't find the answer to my question through a couple of searches so at risk of duplicating others I'll just ask it: if I spend around GBP2k on my Amex on air tickets in order to get travel insurance thrown in can I balance transfer this amount to say an MBNA card that will be 0% for a year? Or is Amex considered somehow different? At the moment I have a DD to pay off Amex each month but in this particular case I wouldn't be able to do it in one month.

If it is the American Express [STRIKE]debit[/STRIKE] charge card you almost certainly won't be allowed to transfer a balance from it to your MBNA card directly. This may not be a problem with MBNA since they also tend to offer money transfers, often at the same terms as their balance transfers. So you can do a money transfer to a bank account and use that to pay off the Amex [STRIKE]debit[/STRIKE] charge card.

American Express branded credit cards should just be normal credit cards.

I don't think you mean American Express debit card. I think you mean charge card but your right. You can't usually balance transfer from the Platinum, Gold, Green or basic card.
