    Hey

Wondering if anyone here can help me out.

    Currently on;
    -Small TV (Freeview)
    -Unlimited Phone Calls
-M Broadband (10mb) but was on the 2mb, had the free upgrade

    I pay £25pcm.

I have asked to upgrade to the 50mb broadband. They stated for 50mb broadband it would cost me an additional £38 ontop of what I am paying at the moment. I was thinking thats way too expensive... What about 20mb? They want an additional £22 for 20mb broadband.

Where do they get their prices from?

Can anyone help me out? Is anyone on a package like mine? I dont watch TV often, I only use phone and the internet and have got the TV because its part of the deal.

I would really appriciate any help you could give.
That should cost a maximum of £52.45/month (£41.45/month for bundle plus £11/month for phone line rental) just £27/month extra without any other discount.

As an existing customer you should get some discount on £52.45/month.

We have same package as you minus the tv as we don't need it. We pay £23 monthly but only get 2MB. How did you get the free upgrade to 10MB?

How long have you been with them, when did you last change your package ??

I think you have got a discount on current package.
Your equivalent package now is £25.95+£11 =£36.95/month.

Look at previous posts, some people threaten to leave etc.

I'd keep phoning to upgrade your package until you find advisor willing to give you a discount.

I don't know what discounts people get these days.
I fixed my package, which is basically same as yours on a permanent discount 3 years ago. Although it's not as good value now.

Virgin withdrew the 2Mb package for new customers last year.

Or did you sign up to a special intro package at 2Mb in last year ??

Check these threads, free upgrade from 2Mb to 10Mb started last year.
You should have had free upgrade by now, if you were on normal priced 2Mb broadband.

I've been with them since Telewest so like 10 years.

My agreement was done quite a while ago on a permanent deal basis, but seems they penalise me for upgrading?

if its an additional £15 pcm (so £40 pcm total for small tv, xl phone, xxl broadband 50mb) I don't mind.

    Is that realistic?

Discount atm works out to be near 30%? So why can I not obtain my same discount for being an existing customer for 10 years and get 30% deal off the 50mb? Im not asking for much tbh, I haven't got a TV package - which is what bumps up most peoeples PCM cost.

Yes, you will likely lose your permanent discount if you change your package.

I don't think they give permanent discounts anymore, only for 12 months now.

I got my permanent discount when Sky pulled their channels 3 years ago, lots of bad publicity & Virgin were losing customers & gave permanent discounts for a period.

    I would test it.

Keep phoning to try & find an advisor who will give you the deal you want, a discount & permanent if possible.

  • Thanks for that Peter. I called Virgin and it turns out we were in fact upgraded to 10MB in Sept but didn't know. However , when checking speeds online we seem to only get the 10MB when we take it off the firewall, as the firewall seems to be slowing it down to only 5MB. Maybe we need a new one?

If you're not bothered about the TV get yourself a Freeview box for about £15-20, tell them that you don't need the TV and use this as a means of negotiating a better deal.
  • Hi all,

I contacted Virgin Media yesterday as I am thinking about getting the XL tv package and the v+ box on top of my existing M broadband and XL phone package.
Virgin have said I will need to pay £75 for the box and then £44.75 per month.

I went away and rang back a few hours later and was told that they could do it for £43 per month and £49 for the box.

I went away again and rang back tonight asking why new customers were given 2 months XL tv for free and I wasn't being offered this.
He said it would be easier just to give me the V+ box for free as that was roughtly what the 2 month saving would be.
He also got the monthly amount down to £41.75 :T

    So thats;

    XL tv and V+ box,
    10 meg Broadband,
    XL telephone

    For £41.75 per month.

I am a happy camper now lol
