Housing Benefit and Council Tax
Good afternoon. My brother (58) suffered a haemorrhagic stroke last November. He was paid Statutory Sick Pay for 28 weeks. It is unlikely he will work again and is now in receipt of full PIP and UC. Should he have been entitled to housing and council tax benefit during this time? He is waiting to be rehoused in sheltered…

Universal credit and class 2 NI (self employed NI)
Hello Please correct me if I'm wrong. But being on Universal credit automatically contributes towards your natiional insurance. So if self assessment gives you the OPTION whether to pay or not, you should pick not. Is that true? I'm a bit confused about the NI optional payments. I will post on the tax board so as not to…

DWP forcing me to repay a debt caused by identity fraud
Hi everyone, I’m
hoping for advice and to find out if anyone else has been through something
similar. I am a
victim of identity fraud. In 2023, someone used my details to make several
Universal Credit claims. Despite clear red flags, the DWP approved a £763
“advance” payment to the fraudster. Instead
of investigating…

LCWRA payment help!
Hi all - been awarded LCWRA due to a major operation, they have stated it is awarded from 22nd May. So, am I correct in thinking, that as you have to wait 3 months, then the 3 months waiting was up on the 22nd August? (22 May - 22 Jun, 22 Jun - 22 Jul, 22 Jul - 22 Aug). My next payment date for UC is on the 22 Sep, but…

Can DWP demand payback of an Attendance Allowance overpayment after death?
The overpayment was made after my mother passed away. They were obviously made aware of her passing. I know they can request the overpayment back for state pension overpayments but are **not** allowed to enforce repayment. Is it the same for Attendance Allowance? Thanks for the help.

PIP or a related number phoned out of the blue.I and my keyworker missed them. Will they phone back?
Hello. I am hoping people can help as I've had a phone call off a number I didn't recognise and have spam calls to navigate as I am a bit paranoid / suspicious if I don't recognise numbers. It was completely out of the blue, no text, letter or anything saying they'd phone, so I looked the number up afterwards and it looks…

PIP Timeline
Just wondered if anyone could give me an idea of how long they waited once their PIP application was submitted? I initially had an application deadline of 25th July but asked for 3 extensions as I was finding it really hard to complete the form. I posted it on Wednesday 10th September and I was just wondering how long…

Moving from living off private pension to state pension
I have long-term health issues and have effectively retired early (63). I fortunately have a private pension which I am using to pay my rent and bills (I am not a homeowner). When I am 67 I can claim my state pension. Hypothetically, could I stop/reduce withdrawing funds from my private pension and instead claim Housing…

PiP/paperbased assessment?
I received a text from Capita that they have arranged a phone call pip assessment for my child. I phoned Capita and requested that I feel it should be paperbased assessment because I have sent in strong medical evidence to support the claim this was logged onto the system. Today I have received a phone call call from…

DWP debt
So a few years ago, during covid, i went and got some income support, for a few months. I was still doing some casual work, and it was all declared, there were a couple of questionable months, where i didn't declare, such were my conditions at home. Anyway, the DWP have been chasing me for over 11k, which is the whole…

owning a property too small for my family - UC
Hello, I have recently come into some money and have enough to buy a 1 bed flat that im planning on renting out or AirBNB. I have three children, so I will have to continue renting a house as we wont all fit in a 1 bed, and my mortgage capacity is too low to buy anything else. My question is, will I still be able to claim…

UC overpayment - still haven't received letter 9 months later
Hi all Last year we updated our UC journal with a change of circumstances regarding savings. We had over £6000, and didn't realise about the limit/s in regards to savings and claiming UC until a friend mentioned it to us. To cut a long story short. We had to upload bank statements for all bank accounts from the start of…

Roll up holiday pay and Carers Allowance
Hi I currently get carers allowance for my disabled son and earn less than the threshold for eligibility through a part time job. I start a new job in 3 weeks in an education setting and while my weekly pay is still within the limit to still be able to claim carers allowance, my new employer pays Roll Up holiday pay each…

UC want bank statements
Hi all, I still have a UC claim open but due to a pay rise, I haven't actually received any UC since August, and I'm therefore expecting my claim to be closed next month. Earlier this month I received a £4K gift from a relative. As this took me over £6K in savings, I did the right thing and reported it (even though I'm not…

Inheritance gifts whilst on UC
My kids grandma wants to gift my kids money. It'd be a few thousand. She's not had the best health and is trying to divest bits of her estate so the 7 year law is applied. The kids have their own current accounts and debit cards, but are only 12 and 14, so obviously live with me. I'm concerned the DWP will view it as my…

Child Maintenance & salary increases
Hi everyone, I've just been paid for my new job which is a £4000 salary increase on the old one. I was a little shocked to discover that this £4000 'pay rise' equates to a weekly take-home increase of just £8.25. I've had the new employer check and performed checks myself, amazingly it seems that is correct. In November I…
