Where are Gordons and Alistairs savings?
I've been wondering where Gordon and Alistair have their savings and think it would be useful to know if this influences their decision making. I vaguely remember that Alistair had his mortgage with the B&B so maybe they have savings there as well and therefore by nationalising they are protecting their own savings. There…

Hi, With interest rates predicted to go down now should i be looking at doing a fixed term rate? Is it likely that the easy access rates would be cut quite drastically with the rate cuts or would they hold up to get business? Credit default swaps - more bank trouble looming?
From what I have read there could more trouble ahead for the banks. Amazingly it is possible to insure against companies with whom there is no business connection defaulting so bankers and hedge fund managers have been betting on companies going under. As with mortgage debts swapping has taken place and no-one knows who…

To be rich or not to be.......
That is the question. I'd like your honest opinion please on what I'm about to write. The optimists and the pessimists are more than welcome to view their opinions. My circumstances: I'm 28 years old and have a mortgage on my house which has £103,000 left on it. I invest £250 per month into a Sharesave scheme with Barclays…

Jupiter Financial Opportunities Fund
Hargreaves Lansdown have been pimping this fund recently and I've been a little tempted to part with an extra £50 per month and start investing in this one. Pound cost average for a year or two whilst the volitility of the financial sector is still high and then hopefully see the benefit when the sector gets some stability…

What needs to happen in order for the credit crunch to end?
Just wondered what needs to happen for the credit crisis to end? It seems that all the 'individual' financial issues which sort of converged over the past 12 months (sub-prime mortgage crisis/rise in oil prices/rise in cost of living etc) have now come to a head. They are all related and they all affect the other one,…

Northern Rock to lower interest rates - 1/11/2008
OK, so just been reading up on the NR interest rates and it seems that they are lowering the e-saver account on 1st November to 5.15%. (http://www.northernrock.co.uk/savings/saving-rates/online-accounts/). Are there any better options out there that pay monthly interest? I can see this account dropping it's interest rate…

20,000 Jobs Lost Due to AIG Life UK Closure of Fund.
Many AIG Life UK depositors run businesses. The failure to reach a swift resolution to the current situation will have a devastating effect on businesses across the UK and will inevitably lead to higher levels of unemployment, through more small businesses like ours having no alternative but to lay off employees. The…

Did I do it right?
I panicked like a lot of people and moved £10000 from Kaupthing Edge and put into my old Online HSBC account. Did I do the right thing? I really don’t know what’s going on and I’m very thick when it comes to understanding the banking system. I have read loads of threads and just get all muddled up! Did I do the right…

Small regular savings.. Best place?
Hi, I save a small amount every month which is to cover things like car/bike repairs, presents etc so I need to have instant access to it. It's around £200 - £250 a month.
