20,000 Jobs Lost Due to AIG Life UK Closure of Fund.

Many AIG Life UK depositors run businesses. The failure to reach a swift resolution to the current situation will have a devastating effect on businesses across the UK and will inevitably lead to higher levels of unemployment, through more small businesses like ours having no alternative but to lay off employees. The impact on local communities would be devastating, particularly at a time when the government needs us to reinvest in our businesses in order to create jobs to lead us out of recession. It has been mooted that if investors have to tie up their funds until 2012, with the risk of losing all or part of these funds, this could affect the employment opportunities of well in excess of 20,000 people.
